Read today in the Richmond-Times Dispatch that SoCon schools turned down advances from the CAA.

“The CAA explored the possibility of adding schools that are now Southern Conference members, but they apparently elected to stay in the SoCon. Howard was also a potential CAA addition, but is expected to stay in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.”

Hopefully, a few southern CAA teams will want to come back to the SoCon instead of staying in the new overextended CAA. W&M and UR ( for football only) are key to any move back. None of the other teams are worth it. Elon is not very good at sports. And no need to add basketball only schools unless they are a package deal. And I don't think W&M and UR would mind leaving those two behind. But I would take all five if that is what it took.

The SoCon could possibly be the most stable conference in the country? I'd love to know which schools turned down the CAA. You love to see it.

I could see Elon getting support from the Southern privates. But CoC and UNCW would not be a good fit due to not having football.

W&M and UR are the prizes, but also most tied to the north.

I could also see Elon and Kennesaw State added to maintain a public vs private power position. I have no idea if KSU would be interested. Tennessee Tech also a public option that ETSU and UTC would like. Tech is investing in football, but have historically been bad.

Talking about them joining the SoCon? I don't think the SoCon needs to add anyone unless someone leaves. They're just sitting off to the side watching all this action.
