RE: WAC MBB Week #10 - Outsider - 01-09-2022 05:14 PM

This could be another long week for us unless we figure our stuff out. If we walk away 1 & 1, I will probably take that as a win.

RE: WAC MBB Week #10 - YesCubanB - 01-09-2022 08:41 PM

Uh oh. NMSU vs Tarleton. IncrementalTexan’s event of the year.

This should actually be an interesting game.

Should be a very interesting game as NMSU has been turnover prone all season and has had trouble dealing with too much quickness on the outside by opposing guards. I don’t see Tarleton being able to go inside too much against the Aggie bigs but I think we’ll end up giving up a ton of clean three point shots. That’s also been a problem for us this season. If Tarleton can sink their outside shots this could get extremely interesting.

RE: WAC MBB Week #10 - SFAXE93 - 01-10-2022 10:13 AM

NCAA DIVISION I 350 Teams

(TURNOVERS PER GAME)

#350 SFA (18.4 a game)

(FREE THROWS %)

#313 SFA (65%)

Unless the Jacks clean that up, we won't have to worry about the post season.

We are abysmal from the 3 point line but do force a lot of turnovers. We struggle scoring in traditional post play, but score inside a ton from our guards and forwards cutting to the basket off the dribble (variation of the Princeton offense). I predict in Stephenville it will be an ugly game by both sides. At Las Cruces will probably be a blow out win for the Aggies.

Yawn. More interested in watching us play against the team we haven't whooped already. And on national TV.

I feel they are all interesting but this certainly is an interesting week for Sam Houston

They barely beat a short-handed Lamar the last go around and Lamar has not played a game since then (!) which is crazy to think. Now, Sam Houston goes to Lamar coming off the heels of a huge victory at Abilene Christian.

The SFA situation above is well documented (turnovers, turnovers, turnovers). The other well documented situation is that the Jacks have largely dominated Jason Hooten since he became head coach of Sam Houston. It's been relatively one-sided and beating the Jacks (as well as Lamar) could really create some fun arguments on where the Kats rank within the framework of the league pyramid.

We split last year. So I guess that’s a “whooping” in your eyes? But last year was last year. The year which you still constantly live in. And congratulations on the amazing ESPNU exposure. I’m sure the eyes of the world will be tuned in.

As raw numbers, some of the WAC programs are putting up some good stats. However, there are a lot of stats that play a factor in others. Rebounding, Field Goal Percentage, and number of scoring possessions all work hand in hand. If a team shoots a good percentage and plays a slower pace, there are less total rebounds to be had in game. On the other hand, if a team keeps their opponent to a low shooting percentage, that generates more rebounds. I think rebound margin is a better indicator of a team's dominance on the boards.
