Louisville: that's why we really need you to come back and win the 1st Responder Bowl... who knows how many more chances the ACC will get? Besides, I want to be able to say that the ACC is 1-0 while the SEC is 0-3!

Thank God. Should Clemson have lost, the ACC would have looked really bad.
Looks like Shane Beamer and gamecocks are gonna win today against UNC. Tomorrow I like WF’s chance to get another bowl win for the ACC.

For the life of me, I couldn't understand UNC being such a big favorite in that game. The Gamecocks have had their number for at least 30 years, and the Heels haven't been able to keep opponents out of the end zone all year.

Not that they needed to defend the pass against VT, but didn't Pitt play good pass defense at some point this season? The pass coverage against Michigan State is just non-existent. Spartan receivers are catching the over the middle ball 8 yards downfield over and over and over... 1 word: middle safety. Another word: robber.

Every officials spot in the 4th quarter of the Peach Bowl has given a yard to MSU and taken one from Pitt. Pitt had a first down and before MSU scored to go ahead but did not complain for a measurement.

Pitt lost fair n square tonight. I'm proud of the kids' efforts tonight. They played the best they can shorthanded. Pitt is in a position to be as good or better next season. Bowl games has become meaningless exhibitions and that sucks. It is what it is. ESPN essentially monopolized bowl games so it's ultimately up to ESPN to make it worthwhile for players to play in these games.

Bowl games were supposed to be a rewarding culmination of a season, not a scrub game comprised of those who want to play. They've lost their meaning and purpose, which is exactly what ESPN wanted them to lose because that too greases the skeds for a larger playoff.

You may be right about ESPN using kids as opt outs as leverage to force a bigger playoff pool. I never thought of that myself, but it does make sense.
I don't think tonight had to do with killer instinct, or lack there of. Tonight kinda showed the difference between Pitt and a Ohio State or Alabama. Those two schools would've had an easier time playing with their 3rd string QB and backup RB. That's truly a testament to what they've built and how much further Pitt needs to go. Pitt has done well taking advantage of the "super senior" and transfer portal. I think if Pitt can have a season without major injuries, Pitt can surely find itself in the playoffs next season. At the same time, to be like Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson we need to start recruiting like those three schools otherwise we'll just be a flash in the pan.

I don't think bowls have lost their meaning and purpose. They were from the beginning intended to be meaningless exhibitions, played for the fun of competing against schools you would rarely ever play in pleasant locations that your fans would enjoy for a winter mini-vacation. Along the way, they became something else.
The first step in that direction, I believe, was when the AP started to have another poll after the regular season was completed. We can argue whether that change was a good thing, and I'm sure I would be in the minority in arguing that it wasn't. It is a part of the American character to demand that there be only one winner at the end of the day. It's why we have a Super Bowl, and why we shower athletes with untold riches when they entertain us and amaze us. It's also why we tear them down from the pedestals that we put them on when they prove in the end to be all too human.
Personally, I think it is the competition itself that is more important than the result.

Today is the ACC's last chance to reach a .500 record against FBS competition. And a Wake Forest win over Rutgers would get the conference to .308 against the P5. Of course, going 0-5 against Notre Dame OOC doesn't help the ACC's stats.

An interesting remark juxtaposed against this post.
It's there in the back of our minds no matter how much we cognitively try to convince ourselves otherwise.
Yes the AP changed things, but even in the 20's having a local paper or athletic club call you "the national champion" was the beginning of trophy case mentality. So when a USC, or Alabama, or Ohio State claims such things in their publications are they any better than say UCF when they won the Peach Bowl against Auburn and the Orlando Centinel declared them national champs and they ran with it?
My point Ken is that they are more meaningless than ever before and when they started they were only exhibitions, but they weren't treated as such. Just listen to Alabama's fight song, "Remember the Rose Bowl we'll win there!" a tag line before the Big 10 and PAC 12 staked claims to it.

But what if kids start to opt out from even a playoff? Will it ever happen? I think it may happen soon given the current trend.
