Basket Ball - Golden Fogg - 12-02-2021 04:57 PM

Uh...we stink...again. I'm thinking Jay needs to walk (or be escorted) out after this year. I guess he could still pull out some good year, but from the games I've seen it would be luck. Our plan seems to be hope we are hitting our shots; hope the opponent is not. It's an all luck strategy. One could try to win the rebounding game, guard the three point shot, aggressively go to the rim for easy buckets and/or fouls. Nope, let's hope we're hot tonight. '
Thoughts on Jay's future?

RE: Basket Ball - Reggie Favre - 12-02-2021 09:01 PM

I think 12 wins saves his job, considering (Covid, Jeremy's hire, former player, improved record, young team). He wont win 12 games. He will be fired.

Jeremy had just been hired and was under unique pressure from the NIT Champ team and others to hire Ladner. He caved and rolled the dice. Dont blame him, was worth a shot. Has not worked out unfortunately.

He will hire the best candidate this time and it will be a homerun.

Probably chose to show the Hattiesburg “one of us” crowd that that’s not it by letting them get their hire. Let’s hope he makes the right decision and makes changes.

RE: Basket Ball - HarborPointe - 12-04-2021 11:39 AM

I was hopeful after the Montana tournament (2 hard-fought wins in as many days and a great half vs. the host team before running out of gas), but then we turn around and get an absolute mudhole stomped into us by South Alabama. I do think finishing in the neighborhood of .500 is a reasonable goal this year with what we have unless injuries ravage us.

Honestly, I think Ladner stays until we have a projected start date for renovation of the Coliseum, at which point we’ll look to hit the “reset” button on the program.

RE: Basket Ball - EagNBran - 12-05-2021 09:22 AM

They aren’t going to do some major renovation. They fixed the lights, have worked on scoreboards, etc. It’ll never be something crazy. Selling recruits will be about butts in seats and tournament chances. The next coach will have more advantages than any one before him.

Couple of months down the road and he HAS to go. We can't have another year of this.

Year Three Comparison:

Doc Sadler 20-63 (14-39). Six wins were vacated. 26-63 (15-39) if we include those.
Recruiting and scholarships available to be offered were limited during each of these three years, and was on probation by the NCAA. People clamored for him to be fired.

Jay Ladner 23-56 (10-35) with seven games left.
COVID-19 limited how you could recruit, but not the number of scholarships available, for all teams in year 2 and part of year 3. People demanding we “give him a chance” because he’s “one of us”

He won’t even get to 12 wins. We have a shot to beat UTSA and Marshall because they’re just as bad as we are, but I don’t see us getting 6+ wins the rest of the season.

I said this over at the main place on the thread the WKU fan started.. Listening to Tim Floyd in an interview he stated we need guards. We get a couple of guards this thing could turn around, even the WKU fan said it.

Is this Ladner's fault, probably not completely, but at the end of the day I'd like to think McClain is watching and preparing for a move.

I don’t know anyone wanting to give him another chance except the same people who wanted him in the first place.

Eaglepost and the To The Top Talk and EagleHour podcasts are full of them.

I get the feeling the TTTT guys aren't big fans of Ladner.

RE: Basket Ball - Eagleyed - 02-15-2022 02:02 PM

I don't know if anyone really wants Ladner to stay another year.

I just go and root for the team. I've gotten accused of being a Ladner supporter lately just because I root for the team to win. The coach doesn't matter to me. I've rooted for a winless USM team in the middle what must have been a tropical storm with about 20 people left in the stands down by more than 3 possessions. I wasn't there to root for the coach to get another year. I was there because I love the Golden Eagles.

No kidding. I bolded the important part for you.
