win the SoCon and hence get to the playoffs?

The way I see it, if we both finish 7-1, UTC would have the tie-breaker for the SoCon title since they beat us. How that impacts playoff spots, someone else on here would need to explain that.

But regardless, go Furman this Saturday at UTC!

Boy, I will be pulling for Furman big time, Saturday.

We do not have to win the SoCon to get into the playoffs. If we win out and Chatt wins out, we're both 7-1 in the SoCon and ETSU is 9-1 against Division I teams. Chatt gets the AQ and we're a fairly safe at-large at that point with the way things are going around the country.

With the way things are as far as tiebreakers, I believe we would have to win the conference outright to get the automatic bid, which requires us to win out and either Furman or Mercer to beat UTC in addition to us winning out (we'll beat VMI and Mercer in the course of winning out).

If you want to maximize ETSU's chances, you're hoping for Furman (at UTC), Samford (at VMI), and El Cid (vs. Mercer) to win this week.

From the Analyst:

ETSU (7-1, 4-1) continues to be in close games, edging Furman 17-13 when Tyler Riddell connected with Malik Murray in the back of the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown at the 0:09 mark. Incredibly, 15 of the Bucs’ last 16 conference games have been decided by one possession (eight or fewer points). VMI (5-2, 3-1), the defending champ, was idle, meaning the top four teams are separated by a half game in the standings.

So, VMI has two weeks to prepare for us, just as we do them. I was hoping they played last week and would not have an extra week to get ready for us.

I was thinking VMI plays Samford today?

Samford at VMI today

Chatt has to lose a game and ETSU has to win out to be the outright Champion.

Chatt has the easiest remaining schedule and the tiebreaker. ETSU has the toughest road. If ETSU loses to VMI, out of playoffs.

We all know Buc coaches will be scouting this game closely. We have to have a game plan in two weeks to beat them at home. VMI is very good but I hope playing at home give us the edge and we win it. It is truly a pivotal game. We need it. Go Bucs!

Three tough ones coming up to finish the regular season, and that includes an improved Western Carolina. This is where successful football programs step up and establish themselves. We always use App State as an example. In situations like this, time after time they took care of business back in their SoCon days and ended up mostly owning the conference.

Well, maybe we can take over that role now in the SoCon.
