Interesting that the proposed realignment by C-USA/McLeod involves only the AAC and not the SB.

Edit: Hooray for actual news!

why would the AAC schools agree to this still?

Does briefly mentions that there are other other reorganizational proposal, one involving the Sunbelt but will most likely be rejected.

"MacLeod has briefly described her reorganization proposals with other commissioners, but doesn’t know “if people are willing to get in,” she says.

“I don’t really understand the fear and paranoia about getting some groups together and talking,” she says. “With all the uncertainty right now in college athletics, there’s a chance for us to build something stable.”

C-USA, which employs former Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney as a consultant, has developed several different models for a reorganization, including one that involves the Sun Belt. Despite having some support throughout its own league and even some others, the effort is seen as a longshot, mostly because of the long-standing Group of 5 pecking order based on media rights dollars."

CUSA's commissioner sounds either naive or obtuse.

The media rights dollars is the key point. Are the two (or three) reorganized conferences going to stop competing and negotiate media rights collectively going forward? Doubt it. Just like after realignments, there will be some conferences more attractive than others and they will ask for the most money.

Maybe this will prod the AAC to issue some invites and we can move forward with ours

The reason for not mentioning SBC is a scare tactic (wishful thinking) to try to get us to join in this sharade. Cusa knows the AAC won't engage, but if they think that we might fall for the appearance that AAC will, then we might engage in the overtures we've already declined. More desperation from a sinking ship. Basically, in seaman's terms, SOS!

I believe this is a clear indication that the Sun Belt has tried or is trying to add a couple C-USA schools to our conference.

Wonder why CUSA is all for this proposal now?? I think we all know the answer to that.

I don’t know how to rec a post, but I love it whenever someone uses the word “obtuse”. Always sounds like the sickest burn.

I'm fine with how we are to stay at 10 then. 04-cheers
We could still invite JMU + 1 to get to 12 and have a really solid conference.

JMU & UMASS likely the last two in the east.

If it were to happen.

I know they are both FCS but I was thinking more along the lines of JMU in the East and Missouri State in the West. I'd rather stay at 10 than add UMASS football. Unless you meant for the proposed new conferences as the last two in that new east division.

. . . if we have “targeted” a couple of CUSA programs, anyone know how they’re feelin’ about Judy’s plan?

CUSA was damn happy when they took Belt teams. The tables are about to turn.

The AAC is laughing at this proposal
