UVU MENS Hoops News - Todor - 09-28-2021 09:20 PM

Summary of schedule--

Hosting BYU. BYU has played there before under Rose, but its still a nice friendly move on BYU's part and not something just any school would do. BYU and Pope have always impressed me. Maybe the best team a WAC team scheduled at home this year.

Wolverines play at Boise to open the season, and at Wyo.
At Washington.
At Pepperedine.
At Southern Utah

In other news, Madsen has signed a 5 year extension which I'm excited about.

The bad news is, I have not found anything about UCCU Center renovations. Perhaps they are not complete yet, but I have been expecting a public unveiling for a while now. It appears Women's volleyball is playing home games in the old arena, so work must be ongoing.

In addition to Connor Harding, Colby Lieifson is another former BYU player (2016-17) at UVU that I think could be solid addition. He had some good production at BYI, including a career high in scoring in the NCAA tournament, but left after 2 years for his Mission. Leifson is now a Sophomore at UVU, so has some years to play still.

Blaze Neild is the other BYU product.

Colby Leifson can really shoot from beyond the perimeter. I was kind of surprised he was not a bigger impact last season. Between Woodbury's, Darthard's, Leifson's, and Harding's perimeter shooting, UVU should really be able to stretch the court offensively.

The question is can Madsen find another big to compliment Aimaq's game the way Evan Cole did last season?

Good question, but Weber transfer Tim Fuller is 6'9" and did get some quality minutes in. He's a solid player but had a much bigger Freshman year at Weber than his Sophomore year at UVU. With Cole gone, I think he'll have a break out year. The second half of last season he got more playing time. His stats didnt impress, but he looks good on the court and is very mobile.

So, I just did a quick little preseason summary for UVU, Dixie, Seattle, California Baptist, and Chicago State.

Those are schools that typically have no fans on the forum most of the year, with the exception of DoubleRSU for Seattle, and Josh from Chicago State --and probably a few I'm forgetting--apologies.

I just wanted new fans for those schools to have a spot provided for them already so its a little more inviting and hopefully to lure them into the fun. I think if they have a thread for their school started already, they might be more likely to jump in.

We need fans from these few remaining schools involved here. I don't believe anyone from Dixie has ever posted, and the others are few and far between. CBU has one or two I think, and UVU had one or two during the WAC tournament last season, but pretty much no one consistent.

I'll do my best to post news into these schools as needed when news comes up, and to keep them visible as we get closer to the start if the season.

The rest of the schools have enough fans to sustain their own conversations I think.

Each school has its own message board for a reason.

I guess I meant a thread that is active that is about their school. That's what I was thinking.

If you and/or others want to post to these threads about these schools that's fine. Just merely pointing out that we have boards for each school.

I don't know what is happening with the UCCU Center renovations. I have seem no news about it at all. I thought they were doing a major renovation, and volleyball has played their season in the old gym, bit I have not seen any news about UCCU reopening.

UVU has a home game scheduled for Nov 12, but its against an NAIA team so it could probably be played in the secondary arena. But they are due to host BYU in early December, so it has to be done by then.

Any UVU fans know whats happening with the reno? Let us know if you do.

Aimaq only had 5 rebounds versus BSU. Connor Harding played terrible and had 8 turnovers. He was turnover prone at BYU as well, but he isn't going to play much this year if he continues that.

Colby Liefson only played a few minutes, but the most interesting thing is he is now a sophomore, but his freshman year at the Y was 2016!
