Realignment that would bring back all the best rivalries - Win5002 - 07-20-2021 03:24 PM

If college football is for the good of advancing the sport as a whole and making it a national sport, I think we could go to 4 leagues of 18 that break off from everyone else. It also re-establishes almost every relevant past traditional rivalries.

There may have been some issues in the past but its time for teams to settle things on the field not on message boards and who makes more revenue.

B1G: OSU, Mich., ND, MSU, Wisky, Ia., Illinois, NU, Ind., Purdue, Mn., USC, UCLA, UW, Or., Cal, Stanford, AZ.
**this gives ND all of its big rivalries in conference and a wide footprint and brings back all the old Rose Bowl rivalries. So even though this conference spans the widest area it feels natural in that it brings back a lot of rivalries even if some are not traditional season games.

ACC: PSU, Maryland, Rutgers, WVU, Clemson, NC, NC ST., Duke, BC, Va Tech, Va., WF, Ga. Tech, Syrcuse, Pitt UCONN, Cincy, UCF or USF,
brings back old Big East rivalry games and gives them PSU to headline the league for football and PSU is set up as king of the region for recruiting, exposure.

Big 12: UT, OU, Neb., A&M, Arky, TT, KU, KSU, ISU, Missouri, Col., Baylor, TCU, ASU, Utah, BYU, Boise St., Houston
Brings back the rivalries mentioned earlier.

SEC: Bama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Fl., Ga., KY, Tn., SC, Vandy, FSU, Miami, Louisville, Cincy Plus 2 more. also, if SEC wanted all of Florida they add UCF & USC and the ACC takes others.
This gives the SEC two past football schools in FSU & Miami and they pretty much own the state of Florida. Louisville and Cincy fit in the northern footprint well and add basketball.

You can argue the last team or two in the B12/ACC & SEC but what fan wouldn't enjoy seeing these rivalries come back all within conferences? They are all pretty equal and engage all regions of the country and then division 1 can negotiate their contract as one. The only two real rivalry games might be PSU vs OSU and Clemson vs FSU but PSU is set in a good position again and that leaves FSU vs Clemson but I think consolidating all 3 Florida teams trumps that.

Each league gets to 18 and conferences have 6-8 teams compete in conference playoffs to determine the CFP. Bowl games are finished. Each league has a single division standings and goes to 10 games. Lock in 3-4 rivals and against other teams play them at a frequency that maximizes content of games. Some may be 2 out of every 3 years, some may be 2 out of 4 years, 1 out of 3 yrs or even 1 out of 4 years. You design the matchups so you get the most desired set of matchups. If 6 or 8 teams make the conference playoffs that gives enough access it doesn't have to be rotated equally and for teams to worry about advantages of playing a team too often.

Can any college football fans argue what we have is better than this? I dont think so.

From a Clemson perspective, I certainly can argue against this. No thanks at all for the disaster that you put together for the ACC. Its tough enough having two NE schools (BC / Syracuse) but then you add UCONN which would be hard placed to compete in D2 nowadays. Taking Miami and FSU away and replacing with directional schools (UCF & USF) is no bueno. The only decent add on is PSU and possibly WVU. Maryland and Rutgers add nothing. Basically looks as though you used the ACC as the landing spot for all the teams no one else wants! All things being equal, I would definitely keep the ACC as it is as opposed to this mess.

I can somewhat understand the Clemson perspective but PSU is a better program overall than FSU and Miami. Also, from the goal of improving CFB OVERALL and putting most of the rivalries back in conference games I think it does that. The other thing was switching PSU for ND put all of ND's traditional rivalries Mich., MSU, Purdue, USC & Stanford in one league.

Also, otherwise the SEC received nothing. Although it could be argued the SEC has enough already and for the good of the sport could use some leveling. Maybe the ACC keeps Miami and only FSU goes to the SEC or vice versa.

CFB also has a problem with the PAC and you can't forget the whole west coast and by tying back in old Rose Bowl rivalries and ND it might help alleviate that.

When I was checking out ESPN a few minutes ago. Bilas had a segment in regards to Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC. He stated, " If I were the ACC, I would be on the phone with the SEC and would be talking about a merger."

One of his biggest points was in regards to the natural rivalries. Stated, "The SEC is going to be mini NFL and mini NBA."

We would definitely have a ton of natural rivalries there but going to that would mean maybe some PAC 12 and Big 12 leftovers join with the B1G? Two 32 team conferences or close to it? It's all getting crazy lol.

I really hope it stops with the 4x16 is that's what they intend to do.

Between the 4 mega conferences we could take 11 playoff spots. Give the G-5 one and call it done.

We are headed towards paid players in an NFL "farm" system. College football, as we know it, is finished. It's only a matter time.
