The overlap is kinda scary.

Interesting. I've only heard of Poland Spring and Deer Park.

Ive only heard of Zephryhills, I guess “what water brand do you drink” isn’t a very common conversation between people of different regions.

Not really. Conferences have always tend to reflect the transportation of the day.

I suspect transport from warehouses, the ability to tie into distribution networks sets the brand regions.

Conferences first organized around who you could easily get to and for long trips that was organized by rail lines.

Take Arkansas, it was harder to get to Missouri Valley soon to be Big 8 schools by rail from Fayetteville than to hubs in Texas. In fact Fayetteville was hard to get to from most of Arkansas.

Arkansas State used to play quite a few Midwest, Tennessee and Kentucky small schools in the train era. Interstate system arrives and ditched them for Texas and later Louisiana schools and then added Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Transportation doesn’t drive things like it used to in FBS but many alliances organized around the same transportation issues used to distribute bottled water.

Yep. In addition, Nestle bought some of these water brands over the years, and started others.

I travel enough to recognize the Nestle water by the bottle shape and the branding. Some of the water brands overlap by territory, depending on the distributor and the store...for instance, I've bought Ice Mountain water in Kentucky.

I was thrown for a loop a few years ago when I saw cases of Arrowhead water in my local grocery store in Texas. They didn't move fast at all, as people here don't recognize that brand. It turns out the Ozarka plant in east Texas was hit by a tornado, and production shut down briefly before being restarted. So, they shipped in some Arrowhead water.

Looks like the Big 12 needs to hit Ozarka up for a sponsorship..or Arrowhead with the Pac 12.
