NEW DIVISION WITH A BRIGHT FUTURE

INDEPENDENT, FOR NOW: Tarleton State University made the jump to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference last July and is currently in its first year of a four-year transition period. The WAC stopped sponsoring football back in 2012, making Tarleton an independent football program for the spring 2021 season. However, the WAC has announced an expansion that will bring four football-playing schools into the WAC as early as July 1, 2021 – Lamar, Abilene Christian, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin. This move will bring football back to the Western Athletic Conference at the FCS Level.

EYES ON FBS: With the revival of the WAC at the FCS level, the question remains of – will the WAC return to its former FBS glory days? The answer is simple: that's the plan. In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Tarleton President Dr. James Hurley said, "Our goal going into this is to immediately start laying out a plan among the presidents and athletic directors to develop a strategic plan to become an FBS conference. That work will start Day 1. We understand that realistically this is going to be at least a five-year process."

Volleyball is only going if crossover event is held in Seattle or championship event

Let us not forget that it was the President of said Crown Jewel of the Great State of Texas that opened up the whole WAC expansion/FCS can of worms in the first place. He was spot on then, just as he is now. Yes, it was he that essentially springboarded that Matt Brown dude's career and set us all off on a 147-page spectacle of speculation thread that still lingers to this day! Face it folks, the WAC is going FBS, come hell or high water. You non-Texans are about to see just how brutally efficient these Texas schools can be when united and committed to a common goal. Not to mention the nmsu AD, great guy imo, is dropoing hints almost daily. WAC FBS= T-minus 5 years.

According to who? The “incoming Texans” aren’t even member yet and won’t be voting members until July first. Our presidents literally just had their first meeting with other WAC members today. Any decisions made by conference as it relates to current members leaving “due to travel” concerns were made by current WAC presidents which includes your universities president.

I don’t know who all voted, but the SHSU president was at the meeting based on a tweet posted on the board. I am assuming at least the other Texas schools’ presidents were there as well. Don’t know about SUU. I don’t know if any voted, but their voices were heard.

Also the executive board has three members, all presidents, NMSU, UVU and new member Tarleton.

Chicago State announced in January that it will leave the WAC in June 2022, meaning next season will be its last in the conference, when it will overlap for one season with the “Texas Four.” “Once again that was in these teams side deal not to be with Chicago State,” Moccia responded. “Would have been nice to know all these parameters BEFORE we struck a deal.”

“I was not aware of that either,” Prettyman wrote back. “Frustrating that we are bending over backwards for the new members with little reward for the ones of us that have been loyal WAC members. Oh well. I guess this was one way to save the WAC.”

The proposed conference basketball schedule obtained by Out of Bounds included Chicago State playing both home and away games against Stephen F. Austin, potentially suggesting that either concessions were made by Stephen F. Austin or that there was no other way for the conference to create adequate schedules for 13 teams. In the proposed schedule, Abilene Christian, Lamar and Sam Houston State each only have one regular-season game against Chicago State, with the games being played at home for Abilene Christian and Lamar, while Sam Houston State’s trip to Chicago State comes after a bye.

Sounds like before coming, the future Texas members had no stomach for playing in a division with Chicago State, even for just one year. Nice to see Stephen F. Austin playing nice. but the rest of them, ehh.
