Memphis has a new AD since the last go-around with Larry Brown. It was that former AD that blocked the hire. It's obvious that Penny wants Brown on staff and there is an opening.... and, apparently, rumors. Link below -

If “tabletop” Pitino is a head coach now, then certainly Brown can serve in a practice coach role now.

True. And if there's no show cause in effect one wonders how the booster stuff translates back to Memphis? If it doesn't I don't see any obstacle still in effect.

just make it clear to him and the NCAA that he will have nothing to do with recruiting or academics...he will be limited to in-game coaching, coaching practices, booster/fan events, and ESPN/CBS/local news interviews.

I missed this thread. I posted on the basketball news thread that I'm hearing it is happening. Got a text last night from a friend who works for Gannett for several papers including the local Memphis paper and he volunteered the Intel
