2021 Host Watch - Reggie Favre - 05-21-2021 05:05 PM

Certainly this is a jinx thread, but nevertheless, here lay USM's hosting chances. We could use a little excitement. We are use to the let down already.

We just need 4 of the "bubble" teams to fall on their face miserably to be 1 of the final 16. So far, so good. But a long way to go with the tourneys and this weekend. Several teams are locks, no matter what they do. So, these are the teams USM needs to lose and keep losing. Cleaned this up a bit:

La Tech - Will have to win tourney or get in finals to host
Charlotte - Will not host (1 out)
Pittsburgh - Will not host (2 out)
Florida -Will host
Gonzaga Still bubble host, though I think they are out. Bad loss yesterday (3 out)
Stanford - Will host
Ole Ms - Will Host
South Carolina - Still bubble host (Likely host).

IMO, Whoever makes it to Championship game between USM and La Tech, will host.

here's my post from the main CUSA board. RPIs from warrennolan.com as of 5/24/21. IN MY OPINION the first 10 teams should be or are already locks. A couple more probably are but stranger things have happened

#1 Arkansas
#3 Texas
#4 Vanderbilt
#5 Miss State
#6 Arizona
#7 TCU
#8 Texas Tech
#9 Tennessee
#10 Notre Dame
#11 ECU
#13 Stanford - host #23 Oregon St on Thursday/Friday/Saturday
#14 South Carolina - vs #36 Alabama on Tuesday
#15 Ole Miss - vs #96 Auburn on Tuesday
#17 Oregon - at #81 Cal on Thursday/Friday/Saturday
#18 Charlotte - vs #230 MTSU on Wednesday
#20 Florida - vs #59 Kentucky on Tuesday
#24 Gonzaga - host #86 San Diego on Thursday/Friday/Saturday
#25 USM - vs #145 WKU on Wednesday
#29 La Tech - host #73 UTSA on Wednesday
#48 Pittsburgh - eliminated from hosting

I will attempt to update each day as teams play their respective games.

Kendall Rogers is usually pretty accurate in his guessing and according to him the last spot seems to be between Charlotte, South Carolina, USM and La Tech with Charlotte the current leader of those 4 for the final spot.

- I still don't see Florida as a lock considering they've lost 4 straight so a loss tomorrow has them finishing the season on a 5 game losing streak.
- Gonzaga has been dominant in the Big West but their upcoming opponent San Diego is currently 2nd in the league so it won't be a guaranteed series win for Gonzaga
- An Oregon series loss at Cal (#81) will surely knock them out of the top 20
- But again, it's impossible for Charlotte, USM and La Tech to all go undefeated this week so at best only 2 CUSA teams would probably host and that's assuming USM/La Tech wins out and beats a no loss Charlotte in the championship.

-Florida won to advance to double elimination part of SEC..they have MSU Wednesday morning
-South Carolina losing to Bama 8-0 in 4th
-ECU losing 11-1 to #224 Memphis. Doubt ECU loses host spot but they did lose final 2 regular season games to 125 RPI USF so another bad loss today might move them to RPI 15 or worse. Throw in a hopeful loss tomorrow and things are looking better for USM

It looks pretty clear that the winner of the CUSA tourney will host as long as that winner is USM, Tech, or Charlotte.

RE: 2021 Host Watch - Reggie Favre - 05-29-2021 10:21 AM

Make it to Championship game, and you host (Usm or La Tech).

Is it possible that if Old Dominion were to beat USM in Champ game, they would send ODU to Hburg as the #1 seed? They should be #1 somewhere if that were to happen you would think. Certainly they would not send them to a conference mate's host? Maybe South Carolina as a #1.

RE: 2021 Host Watch - Reggie Favre - 05-29-2021 05:29 PM

I do not ever remember blowing an 8 run lead. Complete freaking melt down. I still want to save Ethridge but Tech will prob score 20 on our 5th pitcher/pen.

This game will decide who hosts so you have to throw Ethridge.

Just when you thought it couldn't be TTT'd....BOOM! 03-weeping

RE: 2021 Host Watch - Footballeagle - 06-02-2021 09:02 AM

why is everyone so surprised? 37 wins a 2 seed at Ole Miss is the norm. this is literally the best the group can do given the coaching and offense they have. USM will go 1-2 at the regional and go home.

Considering the vast majority of our players are Freshmen and Sophomores, I'd say this hasn't been a bad year. Sucks our two best pitchers are graduating, but Etheridge and Boyd seem ready to step into those roles with another offseason under their belt.
