OWLS Golf - Bayou City - Rice VMI 1969 - 04-05-2021 01:24 PM

Owls open with a nice 284 (4 under) this morning at Westwood CC. That is some good playing at a classy and hard course, especially when breezy. Let’s keep it going this afternoon.

Good for 6th position in the 17-team field. Louisiana took the 1st round lead with -9.

Rice's 2nd round is 15 shots worse than their first (284-297). But they fell only one spot on the team leaderboard to 7th (+5). Sam Houston leads with -20.

Individually, Hineline & Benson are T9 (-4).

Owls finish 9th - we are still struggling with consistency as a program. This is another men's program that is totally underperforming.

One thing that is frustrating with the golf team is we have a habit of picking the wrong team. Just about every tournament that we have an individual competing on his own (not as part of our team score), they do better than one or several players. This week, our top golfer was individual Jack Diamond (who finished in a tie for 7th on his own - the top individual finish among the five that represented the team was Jake Benson, who tied for 16th). We would have finished 6th instead of 9th if we had Diamond replacing Kerjiwal (who shot our highest team score of the five).
