It's the 48 that's bothersome. Our offense sucks.

^ this. I suppose if our coach was Paul Westphall we'd all be tired of run and gun with no D. Just want some sense of balance and offensive competency.

RE: Are we the worst best team in CUSA? - monarx - 03-20-2021 12:34 PM

I think it’s fair to say that. CUSA has 5 or 6 good teams. We are probably the worst of them, which is why we lose our first games and don’t go to post season. Until Jeff is let go and we are out of CUSA that will remain the case. Our only hope is to get in a lucky hot streak at tournament time.

I think it also needs to be addressed that Purdue beat Villanova by 30 points two days later.

Anyway you slice it... this conference has fared well in both the NCAA and the NIT. The basketball is not the problem with this league. It’s the logistics and the lack of rivalries and the Mickey Mouse conference scheduling that give the entire league such a bad perception. The basketball itself has never been the issue.

And the lack of exposure on TV as well as the bottom 5 teams. If this league cut out the bottom 4 or 5, and got a good television package and the money that comes with it, we could overcome the geographic obstacles. But I have no faith that will ever happen. Especially with Judy in charge.

This is exactly what people said when we were in the CAA too...but lets go back there 05-stirthepot

These other teams were playing their best ball headed into the tournament. We were not. B.J. Stith lost his pepper once we clinched the regular season title. Xavier Green (when he was good) got into early foul trouble. Caver outplayed their point guard who was a stud, but no one else showed up.

We were a few miracles from not going to the Dance at all.

I think the team we faced is the best on the list above. The Purdue team we played would have dusted North Texas. Too big, too strong, with an NBA point guard. Ahmad played a hell of a game - too bad no one else showed up.

We won the conference in a very bad year. We also lost to a team that was not only a matchup nightmare, but was peaking while our two best players fell apart down the stretch. While it was fun watching those kids give it all and preserve, that wasn’t a good ODU team. Not even JJ’s best team.

One thing in our favor is that we are always in the Top 4 except our first year in the league? None of these other teams have done that? Just a semi educated guess.

Second behind MSU I’d say.

We weren’t top 4 this year either.

We weren’t top 4 this year either.

So why’d we get that tournament bye that went to only 4 teams?

We were top 4 based on how divisions were split but I think on a regular season with no divisions, we probably would've been a 5th seed IMO.

You might want to take another look at the standings.

Thats how I see it. We were second in the east, but other than WKU, the other top 3 were in the west. Because of COVID, they changed the rules, and the byes went to the top 2 seeds in each division, not overall. As a result, we got a bye for being second in the east but fifth overall. FWIW, Marshall had just as many losses as us and split with us, but played 2 fewer conference games. Had the season played all the way out, we probably would have been 6th overall, behind them too.

I don't know about you, but once again I am sitting at home watching an ODUless NCAA Tournament! That makes us the worst!

It surely sucks, but it’s better than being the “best 1-11 football team in the country” 05-stirthepot

We had more wins than NT. So no, if they seeded like they normally do, we would have still received a bye.

As for Marshall, we split with them without our two best scorers. But sure, I bet in a regular year, everyone else would have been better and we would have been worse.
