What interests me about the Big Sky Tourney and Southern Utah is this--SUU split with the second and third place teams, Eastern Wash and Weber. And EWU and Weber didn't play each other at all this season.

Could be some interesting match ups.

The Southland tournament is also interesting. Nicholls (#1 seed) didn’t play ACU or SFA in the regular season and lost both games to SHSU. Many believe the schedule was set up that way after the Texas4 announced they were leaving for the WAC. The conference postseason awards seem to support the disdain for the departing schools.

Barely fits in the category, but Ben U finished 5-8 with a fairly limited schedule and 6 loses being to D1 teams. After starting out with GCU and the Aggies, they played 4 other D1 schools. Southern Utah, UNLV, San Jose State, and UTEP. Their worst losses were around 50 to UNLV and SUU, while NAIA #1 Indiana Wesleyan was almost as bad at around 40. They played UTEP to 20 and SJ State to 16.

Arizona Christian, who played NMSU close, finished 24-2. Both teams play at a regional site in Idaho to see if they go on to the main national tournament site.

Record against top teams in regular season standings:

#1 seed Nicholls (0-2) L2 Sam Houston
#2 seed ACU (3-1) 1-1 Sam Houston, 2-0 Stephen F Austin
#3 seed Sam Houston (3-3) 2-0 Nicholls, 1-1 ACU, 0-2 Stephen F Austin

Not eligible: Stephen F Austin (2-2) 2-0 Sam Houston, 0-2 ACU

One of the reasons ACU and SFA did not play Nicholls is that Nicholls is rumored to have asked conference teams to pay Nicholls for away conference games and for teams to pay their own way to play at a Nicholls. That the SLC permitted Nicholls to do this helped make the decision to leave for the WAC much easier.

That's wild and gross.

In SLC action, #6 Lamar upset # 3 Sam Houston last night. The Cards will face #2 ACU in the next round.

SUU lost in OT, hopefully they get a NIT bid. ACU is beating up Lamar by 23 at half.

Didn't SUU won the big sky so they get the NIT bid.

In normal years. I don’t think the NIT has said that will be the case this year. They trimmed the field in half too.

ACU 93-Lamar 71.

#2 ACU vs #1Nicholls in today’s tournament final.

RE: The WAC and other tournaments of interest... - OscarWildeCat - 03-14-2021 07:15 AM

ACU 79- Nicholls 45.

We dancin! Hoping for a 13 seed. 14 most likely. 15 will be disappointing. 16 would be a travesty.
