2021 Transfers from P5 to SBC - CardinalBlackTrojan - 01-08-2021 12:15 PM I've been amazed at all of the talent coming in from the P5 to the SBC. App State, Troy, Texas State, Georgia Southern, and USA have all picked up highly-rated QB transfers from the P5... add in that Louisiana still has Levi Lewis, Coastal still has Grayson McCall, Ark State still has Layne Hatcher, and Georgia State still has Quad Brown... This dude is going to make the option offense hum. He seems to be a better passer than Werts. Amazing what happens when the conference puts a quality product on the field. Given talent coming back and addition of these transfers, all SBC teams will put even better products on the field in 2021. This includes upgrades to the coaching staff at a few member schools also. This is our chance to make sustainable upward separation from several other conferences. ULM, you're on the clock. Bowden has the connections needed to make transfers happen and the NCAA is blessing it this year. Whatcha got? You need a few names on this list. I’m glad we will have a QB can hit the ground running (pun intended) without needing a few years to mature into the offense like Werts needed. He’ll be very comfortable from day 1. I think he also has a chip on his shoulder and wants to show the people in Atlanta that they should have realized what they had. Maybe he can bring Trevor Lawrence with him RE: 2021 Transfers from P5 to SBC - APPdiesel - 01-08-2021 03:40 PM Surprised more guys who were recruited to GT's option offense haven't transferred to GS. From an athlete perspective it's got to be hard to re-tool your game for an entirely new offense. From a program perspective it's got to be hard to pivot to a new offense quickly when you've got athletes who's skill sets may not be suited to run it. We haven't had a ton of P5 transfers over the years and while most contribute but most don't seem to dominate. RE: 2021 Transfers from P5 to SBC - Arrowhead - 01-11-2021 02:41 PM I’m not 100% on this one, but I expect Rhett Rodriguez, dual threat QB, will be transferring from Arizona. He was a 3 star out of high school and is Rich Rod’s son. Hopefully will be confirmed soon. RE: 2021 Transfers from P5 to SBC - Arrowhead - 01-11-2021 02:41 PM I expect and hope other transfers announced Wednesday. What I really like about the transfers Louisiana is getting, is that 3 out of the 6 are 1st or 2nd year redshirt freshmen. Louisiana is getting high rated guys with P5 experience ( weight room and nutrition and practice) young players with the full 4 years to play. you just cant beat that for program building. Coach Napier also making a effort to bring former Louisiana high school players back home. it can be hard to get transfers with only 1 or 2 years to play to be dominate. most need at least 1 year to get comfortable with the new staff, players, and system. But adding talent to a roster and creating depth in both games and practice is important to improving. Personally, I don't get overly excited about transfers regardless of what program they are coming from until I see them play for App. To the best of my knowledge, App has never been big on accepting a lot of transfers. Even when App was FCS, they landed some 3 and 4 star players from "big time" programs and while several contributed, I don't recall any "dominating." To me, the best thing about transfers is adding a player with some college program experience and improving depth. I try not to elevate expectations just because a player comes from an A5 program. Now if a proven player transfers in then obviously my expectations will naturally rise but there are not to many instances of an impact type player transferring. For instance, if I were a GS fan, my expectations would've probably risen when they got Eligwe (LB) from FSU several years ago as he had legit playing experience. |
