ACC Bowls? - schmolik - 12-14-2020 06:55 PM

Boston College and Pittsburgh have opted out so feel free to guess/speculate/campaign for the others.

Clemson wins:

CFP: Clemson, Notre Dame
Orange: North Carolina
Cheez-It (Orlando): Miami
Gator (Jacksonville): NC State

Other Bowls: Duke's Mayo (Charlotte), Military (Annapolis)
Possible: Gasparilla (Tampa), First Responder (Dallas)

Anyone really dying to go to Annapolis for a bowl game?

I think VT would consider playing in the Military Bowl just to keep the streak alive.

BTW, I saw where UVA also opted out.

UVA opted out too.

ND wins:
CFP: Notre Dame

Cheez-It (Orlando): Miami
Gator (Jacksonville): North Carolina
Duke's (Charlotte): NC State
Military (Annapolis): VT

ESPN has VT projected for the Charlotte bowl playing either Penn State or Wisconsin.

After the beatdown UNC put on Miami, I don't see how they don't jump the Canes in the polls and wind up in the Orange (should Clem win the ACC champ game).

Here's my understanding of the order of selection

1) CFP - the winner of the ACC CCG
1A) CFP - possible second CFP slot, particularly if ND loses the ACC CCG
3) Orange Bowl
4) Peach, Cotton or Fiesta Bowl - NY6 at large bid
5) Outback Bowl - if a Big Ten school (Indiana? Ohio St if it loses the B1G CCG?) is invited to the Orange Bowl
6) Cheez It Bowl (formerly Camping World)
7) Gator Bowl
7A) Duke's Mayo Bowl (formerly Belk)
9) Military Bowl
10) Birmingham, Gasparilla, or First Responder

Sun, Holiday, Pinstripe and Fenway all cancelled.

Obviously, many of these are contingent and vary in likelihood of happening.

Virginia Tech's out.

Four ACC teams out already. At the rate things are going, Syracuse will be going bowling.

Louisville announced today, after speaking with The ACC office, they would not be bowling. Personally I don’t think teams with a losing record should be eligible for a bowl but I know they changed the rule this season.

Covid hit Louisville hard this season. We were without key players for the last five games. Everyone else had the same problem, but coupled with our depth issues, it hit us doubly hard. For example we were down to our 4th String Center in our last game against Wake. A true freshman that had never played a down at center at any level. Overall Louisville started 6 true freshman on offense on Saturday.

By staying home this bowl season, with the semester over, we can send our kids home for Christmas break. The coaches can determine what Seniors want to come back, and which ones they want to come back, if any.

Everyone can come back in January, along with 11 early enrollees from today’s signing class can report, and we can start preparing for 2021.
