SETTING THE STAGE
• Navy and Memphis meet on the gridiron for the sixth time, all as American Athletic Conference foes, when they square off Saturday night (7:00 pm) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. TV information will be announced on Tuesday. The game is presented by Navy Federal Credit Union.
• This will be Navy’s first game in 28 days as the Mids have not played since Oct. 31 at SMU. Navy’s games against Tulsa (Nov. 7) and Memphis (Nov. 14) were postponed and the game at USF (Nov. 21) was canceled due to COVID-19. The 28-day stretch is tied with, ironically, Memphis for the second-longest length of time between games in the FBS this year. The longest is 35 days (Oct. 17 - Nov. 21) by North Texas.
• Navy leads the all-time series against Memphis 3-2, including a 2-0 mark in games played in Annapolis. Last year, the Tigers defeated Navy 35-23 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis. It was one of the Mids’ only two losses on the year (the other was at Notre Dame).
• Since 2015, when Navy joined the American Athletic Conference, the Mids have compiled a 30-15 (.667) conference record which is the second-best mark in the league behind Memphis (32-13).
• Navy started three different quarterbacks in its first three games of the season for the first time since 1992. That 1992 team finished 1-10.
• 13th-year Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo earned his 100th-career victory when the Mids defeated Temple in Annapolis on Oct. 10. He is the 24th active coach with 100-career wins and just the sixth active coach to achieve it at one school.
• Navy is 42-27 (.609) in the Niumatalolo era (2008-present) in one-score games (8 points or less), including 3-0 in 2020. Fortytwo percent of Navy’s games during that time period have been decided by one possession.
• Navy has had 23 different players make their first-career start this year which is the third most in the country. Senior defensive end Jackson Perkins is the only player on the Navy defense to start all seven games this fall. The Mids have started four different nose guards and three different quarterbacks.
• Sophomore linebacker Tama Tuitele is tied for the nation’s lead in forced fumbles with three.
• Navy has converted 14-consecutive fourth down opportunities.
• Opposing kickers are an incredible 15-16 (.938) on field goals and 28-29 (.966) on extra points this year against the Mids. The only two misses were blocked by Navy -Tobe Okafor blocked a field goal vs. ECU and J’arius Warren blocked a PAT vs. SMU.
• The National Football Foundation announced that senior cornerback Cameron Kinley is one of 12 finalists for the Campbell Trophy presented by Mazda. The Campbell Trophy, also known as the Academic Heisman, is college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. Kinley is also a tri-captain on the football team and is the President
of the Naval Academy Class of 2021.
• Navy’s roster represents players from 27 different states. The Mids have nine players from the state of Tennessee: sophomore corner Caleb Clear (Memphis), sophomore center Luke Coleman (Memphis), senior defensive tackle Mike Flowers (Hermitage), sophomore offensive tackle Kip Frankland (Germantown), junior slotback Devon High (Lebanon), senior corner Cameron Kinley (Memphis), sophomore defensive end Jacobi Rice (Memphis), junior linebacker Michael Salisbury (Shelbyville) and junior slotback Daniel Taylor (Franklin).

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
• Memphis enters Saturday’s game with a 5-2 record, including a 3-2 mark in the AAC. Memphis’ only losses are to SMU (30-27) and Cincinnati (49-10), while earning wins over Arkansas State (37-24), UCF (50-49), Temple (41-29), USF (34-33) and Stephen F. Austin (56-14).
• Quarterback Brady White has completed 173 of his 281 pass attempts for 2,397 yards with 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He ranks fourth in the country in passing touchdowns (23), fifth in total offense per game (352.1), eighth in points responsible for per game (22.0) and eighth in completions per game (24.7).
• The Tigers’ passing offense is ranked ninth in the nation, averaging 342.4 yards per game.
• Calvin Austin is the Tigers’ leading receiver with 46 catches for 820 yards and 7 touchdowns (12th nationally), while Sean Dykes has 36 catches for 474 yards and 6 touchdowns (19th). Austin’s 117.1 receiving yards per game ranks ninth nationally and he’s had a school-record fivestraight games over 100-yard receiving (previous record holder was Anthony Miller).
• Rodrigues Clark paces the Memphis running game with 500 yards and 2 touchdowns on 117 carries, while Kylan Watkins has 69 carries for 384 yards and a touchdown.
• Memphis ranks 10th nationally in total offense (517.9).
• The defense is led by Quindell Johnson, who has recorded 48 tackles and broken up 4 passes, while Rodney Owens has made 41 tackles, picked off 3 pases and forced a fumble.
• The Memphis special teams has blocked 6 kicks this year, which is the third most in the country, while its kickoff return team is giving up just 15.08 yards per return, which is 10th best in the country.

Additional TV info (add yours if you feel compelled),
CBSSN is available on HULU Live TV streaming service.

I know it is sometimes a question depending on where you get your TV service.

How about it DISH and DirecTV customers?

Curious as to why this game is not being played in the afternoon.

Prior to postponement, this was the NMCMS game picked up by Disney under the new media deal. We were waiting to see if it was going to be on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
With the date change, it is back on CBSSN. I saw the CBSSN announcement before I saw ESPN fill in the 7pm ESPN2 slot with K-State Baylor, but obviously all one big nutroll.
CBSSN meanwhile, had the afternoon slot already filled - vacant now, but one that has since been cancelled, I guess.

I heard from an actual insider "More trades in TV than in the NBA right now."

Meanwhile, with no fans (only 250 Mids) the usual challenges of evening games in Annapolis are largely mitigated.

Wondering whether Disney will pick up the Tulsa at Navy game - sounds about ESPN2-ish. We're also wondering if that could be Thursday or Friday night...

It's been four weeks.
Almost hard to believe.

#2 Tyger Goslin gets the qb start. Better option read qb.
A couple other key absences - senior slot, WR Cooper, some changes on OL.

Just called the name of the #3 or 4 fullback.

Jr Jamal Glenn first start at CB - 24th first time starter.
edit to add - found that note: moves us from 3rd to tied 2d with AF; Army first at 25

And typing that up...

Fake punt
Big pass completion
Reverse.
FB trap for the TD

RE: *** Official Game Thread Memphis at Navy *** - slhNavy91 - 11-28-2020 07:51 PM

I liked Tina's piece on Coach Silverfield talking the team through the battles, the memorials, etc.

NMCMS IS a Memorial.
Any homefield advantage is not the wine and cheese crowd, or even the Brigade which is held to one corner...it's the team treating it as hallowed ground.

Said the Tigers WILL go respect Blue and Gold.
Thanks, Coach

Don't worry by the way. I'm totally cool with just replying to myself in here.
