Charlotte Hornets Drafted Grant Riller 56th - EvanJ - 11-19-2020 10:42 AM

Grant Riller was taken later than in mock drafts, but at least he was drafted. https://caasports.com/news/2020/11/18/mens-basketball-charlestons-riller-chosen-in-second-round.aspx says that Joe Chealey played 4 games for Charlotte in 2019-2020. Two players have never been teammates in the CAA and NBA. The CAA is the only mid-major conference to have player(s) drafted in 2019 and 2020, but it doesn't define how many conferences are mid-major. I'd expect the A10, AAC, and Mountain West to get somebody drafted every year, and maybe Gonzaga to get somebody drafted every year without needing help from other West Coast Conference teams. It's the first time the CAA had players drafted in consecutive seasons since VCU's Eric Maynor in 2009, VCU's Larry Sanders in 2010 who went pro after three seasons in college, and Hofstra's Charles Jenkins in 2011. Neither George Mason nor VCU had anybody drafted from their Final Four team.

In other news, Utah traded Ed Davis to the Knicks. Davis played 303 minutes in 2019-2020, and his departure could mean more playing time for Jarrell Brantley.

Congrats to Riller. Nathan Knight signed a 2 way contract with the Hawks as well.

In addition to drafting Riller, Charlotte signed Nate Darling. Those were the second and third leading scorers in the CAA last season.

I have to correct myself because players have been teammates in the CAA and NBA, but not by being drafted by the same team.

Congrats to the CAA as a whole. The CAA is joined by the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Mountain West , Pac 12 and SEC as the only conferences to have someone drafted the past 2 years to the NBA

49 players were drafted from college. Here is the breakdown:

SEC: 12 (Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, 3 from Kentucky, LSU, 2 from Mississippi State, and 2 from Vanderbilt)
Pac-12: 10 (3 from Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, USC, 2 from Washington, and Washington State)
ACC: 8 (3 from Duke, 2 from Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, and Syracuse)
Big 12: 4 (Iowa State, Kansas, Texas Christian, and Texas Tech)
Big Ten: 4 (Maryland, 2 from Michigan State, and Minnesota)
MWC: 4 (Boise State, Nevada, San Diego State, and Utah State)
Big East: 2 (DePaul and Villanova)
AAC: 2 (2 from Memphis)
CAA: 1
A10: 1 (Dayton)
Non-Division I: 1 (Jay Scrubb from John A. Logan College, which is a Community College in Carterville, which is in southern Illinois)

The Pac-12 is normally in the bottom part of the top six conferences, and in one week of 2018-2019 Hofstra got more points in one of the polls than any Pac-12 team!

Riller was just picked up by the Sixers.
