SMU struggled to put away Texas State, when they still had their starting QB. North Texas allowed HBU to score 31 points in our blow out 57-31 win, but HBU gave Texas Tech fits and only lost their game by a score of 35-33. I feel better about North Texas hosting SMU this Saturday on national TV (CBS Sports 5pm).

That line seems ridiculous based on Week 1 performances.

Also, it has been rumored on the gomeangreen board that a throwback flying worm type uniform may be used for this week's game.

Apparently a member of the band caught this image at Apogee while practicing for the game....

Vegas knows their business. Hopefully the line moves in our favor over the course of the week. If not, things might get ugly Saturday.

That would be outstanding. The 2013 Centennial celebration game against Idaho where we busted that logo out is still one of my favorite memories at a UNT game.

I wonder if SMU will be playing as the Broncos again. That has to be tough for their fans to swallow, with the AAC's P6 campaign and all.

I think UNT should be very competitive in this game. SMU couldn't defend a lick last season but scored at will.

The problem is that North Texas also can't defend a lick. This game might be a race to 50 points. I could see maybe a special teams play being the difference in the game.

I think both teams may get there.

Well compared to Tx Tech, UNT has a stellar defense. A lot of HBU yardage was piled up against NT subs, while Tx Tech was in a dogfight till the very end.

So to me, NT defense is still much an unknown. They are not expected to be good, but that is still to be determined this year.

Based on their first game, SMU should not scare any team.

Often first games are misleading, and this season with all the distractions: that could certainly be true.

Turnovers will probably decide it, especially in this game. With that said, I like SMU's chances much better unfortunately. When it comes to turnovers, Buechele is normally pretty good (last game excluded). Jason Bean has not shown me that he can avoid the frequent picks. And, we all know that last week he could have easily had more than 1 pick.

I agree, and I think some of that unknown is due to Bowen running a base defense against HBU. I don't think we really got to see the whole scheme last week. If we can effectively disguise different blitz packages against SMU, we could keep their passing attack from finding a rhythm. I think much of what North Texas plans to do both offensively and defensively has still not been seen on the field yet. Because of that, and what HBU was able to do at Texas Tech, I feel like we have a fighting chance this Saturday.

By the way, I'm glad to see more North Texas fans posting over here. Be sure to stop by the North Texas bbs board too. I keep a lot of historical data and stats on that board. +3 for all of you. 04-cheers

I'm not trying to be a killjoy, because I'd really like to see UNT win. But I don't see UNT staying on the field with SMU. The Mustangs are going to score a lot of points, because that's what they do. Sonny Dykes is known for his offenses, and he has an experienced QB in Shane Buchele this year. SMU is going to get their's against UNT's pedestrian defense.

The question is, can UNT score enough offensively to keep up. I'm guessing no. SMU wins 42-20.

We may not win, but we're not going to lose by more than we did last season.

Sure you will. Last year you had Mason Fine returning at QB for the 4th straight year. This year, you don't. Fine was worth at least 2 more TD's for UNT. Fine was arguably the greatest QB in UNT history.

Mason is certainly the best we have had. We may not have Fine this season but I don't think SMU is as good as they were last year either. This may be a game between two extremely mediocre teams.

Fine was probably our best QB ever. But, in his senior season, he was not 100%. I think the years of bad protection had taken a toll on his overall performance. That isn't to take anything from him. He was tough as they come.

This season, our o-line seems to be better at pass blocking. If that is the case, that is big for our offense. And, Adaway is an incredible talent in the backfield. After two weeks of football, he is still the second leading rusher in C-USA, even though he has only touched the ball 5 times. He is also tied for 2nd in rushing TD's, with 2. Plus, our defense can't be worse than last year. And, we do appear to have some talent at the QB position. Time will tell.

It pains me to say this but I just don't see NT beating SMU with Buchele behind the throttle. Having one game in the win column, HBU, I just don't have confidence in our defensive line. I really hope they prove me wrong.

I think the question for me is, is SMU stacked again with defensive and offensive line transfers like they were last year?

SMU defense was one the worst in FBS last year giving up 445 yards per game.

Look what FAU did to them last year, Control the TOP and anyone can throttle SMU. It is 42-14 in the third and FAU had control the TOP keeping SMU off the field, SMU defense is so bad they won’t be able to keep up
