Academics?

I do not know, but that would be a reasonable guess.

Recruiting can be crazy. And we don't know what we don't know... 04-jawdrop

I remember EMU hoops stopped recruiting a player after they got word from a recruiting analyst who had heard the player say to another player on court, (to the effect), "don't mess with me I have a gun in the car."

This story is old goes back a decade or two (I'm being evasive on purpose).

maybe he can get it together and transfer up in a couple years

We don't have any Michigan jucos for football so going D2 isa good alternative.

We recently offered Ma'kyi Lee 6'7 315 OL from Coffeyville KS JUCO. He will graduate in May 2022. Has UMass offer.

We've been talking about an impact DL for this class. A player on our radar that might do that is Jonathan Ross 6'3 260 So. from Bowie St.

I just noticed. Bowie State was a D-II playoff team - won a few games. Bowie is a D-II HBCU. Beat Saginaw State in 2021.

Hails from D.C. area. Excellent resume. Getting offers in FCS, mostly MEAC schools which are HBCU.

Don't know if he will go FCS such as a FCS HBCU or elect to go FBS.

Think he is new to the portal so offers should increase soon. As EMU coaches are following him on Tweeter suggests that we are still hunting for transfers.

Just a FYI for those who are QB evaluators.

I just watched Willis (QB - Liberty - we know that) throw a 60 yard strike at the combine. The throw was from his 10 to the opposition 30.

That's a good bench mark for a 1st round arm. So a QB who can throw say 50 yards is no slouch.

Willis is a freak! In a draft populated by a bunch of "good" players, I would not be surprised if an NFL GM takes a chance on him in the first round. His upside is incredible.

Say what you will about EMU football, but in the very recent past we have played against Malik, Kenny Pickett and Josh Allen.

Jerry, I'll take a flyer: Willis goes mid-first. He has a chance to be the riser that scouts fall in love with.

Willis will be a bust. From what I've heard he lacks the ability to read defenses. A strong arm and fast feet are nice but in the NFL you've got to have the mental game.

Picket has tiny hands. Maybe that's why he fumbled against EMU in Pitts opening drive.

I have read the same. Boom or bust.

Fun Fact about hand size: "The year before for USA Today, my now-colleague Steven Ruiz jokingly found that there is a stronger correlation between name length and fumbles than between hand size and fumbles."

FWIW, my reference was to Willis. I have no take on Pickett.

If Willis falls far enough through the first round, I can see the Lions taking a chance on him with the 32nd pick.

Agree although I don't think he falls that far.

The question which will be answered in the years ahead: Is Willis a better workout QB than game QB? Can he have great workouts but might struggle in games.

He looked real inaccurate when he was wailing on us in the bowl game

Those throws Jared Goff does NOT make for sure. This guy could be Josh Allen II, equipped with a cannon and beast when he runs. Let's all save this post, three years from now, it will be incredibly intriguing.

RE: Unofficial 2022 Football Recruiting Thread - emu steve - 03-06-2022 09:53 PM

Probably with the Lions in this draft:

They have 1/2 probably Hutchinson, but don't draft again until 1/32. By then Willis, the WR Drake London, etc. will all be gone.

The draft doesn't set up to help at key offensive positions, QB, WR, etc.

RE: Unofficial 2022 Football Recruiting Thread - emu79 - 03-25-2022 06:28 AM

As mentioned in the spring football thread I believe the staff is looking at Spring 2022 JUCOs. We recently offered these two OL:

https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Flavio-Gonzalez-151444/RecruitInterests/

247 is inaccurate as Flavio has at least 7 more FCS offers than are shown. Just check his twitter feed.

We also offer Isaiah Jatta from Snow (UT) JUCO 6'6 310. I couldn't find any more offers for Isaiah.

Not sure if we are taking one or both.

So to keep me updated so far we've 3 transfers coming in next season 1 from Boston College, 1 from Michigan St, and 1 from Oklahoma St........This's how you win today! Unfortunately, kids like this aren't coming to MAC schools out of high school!
