Should be a great basketball conference that grows in prestige. Our women's basketball program is one of the Top 10 all time winningest programs in the country, so SFA should be strong on both sides in the WAC. William R. Johnson Coliseum seats about 7,300 and the average take is 3,000 to 4,000 a game. The biggest crowds are always against our bitter rival Sam Houston State or non conference games against power 5 schools, when that happens, is when we could sell out. Easy to buy tickets at the window, or to be safe buy on-line https://sfajacks.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetGroupList?groupCode=IGSS&linkID=sfasu&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode= The coliseum is going through some changes right now ($30 Mil worth) with new facilities. Going from this to this new practice facility is being added on with new offices, locker rooms, etc. The court is getting a new design job as well as we put the new WAC logos on. We have a new AD Ryan Ivey who is dedicated to taking us to the next level and transforming SFA into the best mid major sports program in the nation. RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments... - FirstandGoal - 05-12-2021 12:10 PM From a Lamar fan, I've been to three games at SFA over the years and never had a problem getting tickets. Granted it's been years since Lamar was considered a solid program but for what it is worth Lamar won two of the games I have seen at SFA. Most years Lamar plays SFA and Sam Houston tough no matter how bad the team seems as a whole on the season. RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments... - SFAXE93 - 05-12-2021 02:06 PM The Jacks will bring their "A" game, I guarantee that! We lost a very good Associate Head Coach in Jeremy Cox who went to UTEP to join their new coaching staff with head coach Joe Golding who did a great job at future WAC member Abilene Christian, who went to the NCAA Tourney in 2021. The SFA basketball team is taking shape and should be a strong team, with all who are returning. That Nigel Hawkins has sure turned into a bust so far. He had a promising freshman year at UTEP and has fallen big time since. Hopefully he can finish strong with SFA. RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments... - Todor - 05-12-2021 03:52 PM Conversely, I don't see any of the new schools moving the needle on attendance at Aggie home games. Nothing like the PCAC/Big West days or the earlier WAC days. I don't see the crowds turning out much more than they have for the current WAC lineup. There's no UNLV or Utah State in this group to rival with. Nothing like the PCAC/Big West days or the earlier WAC days. NMSU has done nothing but win over the past several years and nothing has really moved the attendance needle. So singling out the new schools seems unwarranted. You are also comparing eras where attendance was much higher for all programs across the board, not just NMSU. It is well documented that attendance across all sports, college, professional, etc. is way down over the past several years. I think SFA could get a few more butts in the seats. Anyone that even moderately follows college basketball should be familiar with SFA. I didn't say any new schools are why our attendance sucks, I just said that I doubt they will change things much. Yes attendance trends are a thing, but given the right opponents, we would probably have attendance more in line with our history, minus the last 7-8 years. Its all about the billing... Going by straight records and championships NMSU has been the leader in WAC basketball. But over the past few years we could see the talent level in the WAC keep rising as well as the addition of some good coaches. While we’ve won the WAC every year but last year for a while there was a ton of close and tough games. I’m super excited to see the additions to the WAC and look forward to the NMSU games with SFA and GCU next year. The WAC looks to have a bright future ahead.
