ACC to play conference only schedule....well crap

RE: UAB/Miami Football game OFF - uabblazer2012 - 07-09-2020 03:56 PM

hopefully we still get paid

RE: UAB/Miami Football game OFF - blazerjay - 07-09-2020 03:57 PM

Not official. Only the Big Ten has announced conference only play.

The ACC has delayed any sports until 9/1/2020, with a warning it may go to a conference only + ND setup. Including independent ND in theirs plans will likely lead to some interesting legal arguments from schools who have games cancelled with no financial reimbursement. I'm not sure how they can legally justify cancelling a non-conference game contract under the typical force majure clause if they replace that game with another non-conference opponent that is not from the same region.

No, there would be no remuneration.

RE: UAB/Miami Football game OFF - hooverblazer - 07-09-2020 03:58 PM

How much were we supposed to get paid?

Of course not.

CFB needs to take a hard look at figuring out how to make a spring season work.

RE: UAB/Miami Football game OFF - BlazinBham - 07-09-2020 04:22 PM

Coronavirus will be a scapegoat to kill off G5 and FCS programs who rely on those buy games. This will give those P5 schools the only example they need to force a split between P5 and G5 schools.

If coronavirus peaked long ago in the spring, then why move the season to the spring if we are convinced of this new normal idiocy?

This isn’t good for us in particular as 5 year pledges are coming to an end.

It didn’t peak long ago. Cases are still rising rapidly in the majority of the country.

Glad I hadn't booked that trip yet. I'm even more convinced we aren't playing ball this year. This virus is doing wonders for my bank account.

The only reason cases are spiking is because positive tests from those with antibodies are being lumped with those testing for the first time with symptoms instead of putting those with antibodies in a recovered column.

Miami was going to be a real good shot for us to get a p5 win based on what’s returning. We should sue if Miami adds a noncon p5 game in our place.

You must have some inside information. ACC fans aren’t aware of this decision.

That is just patently false. Please dont spread that nonsense here.

Troy seems to be available...

With a cancelled game against Miami, we may have to play FAU or FIU (if they are open for that weekend) instead.

I can actually see a 10-game conference season if OOC games are canceled...

I think with our TV contracts being worth as little as they are coupled with the loss of revenue from playing without paying fans in the seats and the loss of buy game revenue, that CUSA will want to play the smallest amount of games they can get away with and still call it a season.

Every game played is probably going to be a net loss in money.

Definitely another way of thinking from a financial standpoint.

This is a similar dynamic MLB was dealing with. The league was wanting fewer games because each regular season game would be a net loss. Fewer games meant mitigating that loss. Players wanted more games because that meant a higher pro rata paycheck. Playoff games would be profitable because the TV contract for playoffs pays so much more.
