Another MEAC school heads to SWAC - JoeJag - 06-26-2020 12:40 PM

Bethune Cookman University to join the SWAC in June of 2021. Leaves MEAC with 6 teams as SWAC moves to 12.

Might see some movement from a SIAC school up from D-II up to the MEAC and D-I. Which may open a door for Spring Hill to restart football.

Of course all that would be easier to see without the current economic and viral climate.

There was some light talk of the Badgers restarting football 2 or 3 years back, but it seems to have been lost in the wind. St. Paul's School stadium would be a perfect place for a Div. II football team.

Spring Hill could add football then join the Gulf South Conference with UWF.

Even growing up, never quit understood how the bottom third of Alabama only had one football team, Troy, and so many teams Montgomery north.

Hell of an HBCU conference. With Southern, Jackson State, FAMU and Alabama State it's likely that they will rule fcs in attendance whenever things go back to somewhat normal.

The MEAC at this point is a sinking ship. I expect the schools who can get invitations from other conferences to go ahead and take them, and unfortunately the ones who can't will have no choice but to drop to D2.

Howard to CAA or Patriot
Delaware State to NEC or ASUN (maybe)
NCCU to ASUN
Norfolk State to ASUN

Not so sure about SC State, Morgan State, UMES, or Coppin State.

Rumors that Delaware State maybe headed to the NEC. Neither NEC or DSU will confirm or deny.

Spring Hill College did have football from 1901 - 1941 and hosted Alabama in the early 1900s.

I would love to see Winston Salem State make another attempt at D1 if the MEAC expands. It's a shame that their first attempt at moving up was complicated by the recession. I know A&T is leaving the MEAC, but it would be nice to see them play each other again.

Unfortunately the economy is in another slump....

Rumors this way say Texas AM wants Prairie View and Tarleton State in the same conference. They are both part of the Texas AM system. I’d assume eventually want both of them in the Southland. Texas AM
Commerce was mentioned as well. Just what I’ve heard and not saying it’s going to happen.

The Southland is going to surpass the ACC as the largest D1 conference if that happens.

Why should the SLC care what the Aggies think. Neither is a good add for them they already have about 90 teams

No one said they should care. I’m just telling you what I’ve been told. It’s all speculation and rumors. I don’t think Tarleton moved up planning to stay an Independent. Eventually the SLC would have to split into two conferences and be even more geographical conference.
