Be Careful What You Wish For - cuseroc - 06-25-2020 03:09 PM

Some of us knew this would happen. Its not rocket science. It saddens me since my home State is in such a mess with all the sensless lives that are being lost. Havent been down since February:

Virus Cases Soaring In Areas That Opened Too Soon

rising infection without commensurate hospitalization or mortality implies herd immunity ...
for the uninitiated, that’s a good thing ...

There is a lag in contracting the disease and hospitalization or mortality. And, it certainly isn't any implication of herd immunity. In order to achieve herd immunity, at a minimum 70% to 90% of the population must be immune and that is dependent on how contagious the disease is.

Quote:"A new analysis by The Sentinel, a Kansas nonprofit, compares the 42 states that shut down most of their economies with the eight that did not. The latter group includes mostly rural states with some small metropolitan areas: North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Utah.

Proof positive that social distancing works. If New York had the population of Wyoming, they would have similar statistics.

You cite Larry Elder? That's all I need to know. I think I will stick with the experts like Dr. Fauci, my degree in biology and chemistry, my 35+ years of experience in the science community which spans Cancer research, Molecular Bio and Biochemistry, BR&D and Quality Control in the pharmaceutical industry.

From the article:

New cases, hospitalizations and the percentage of positive tests have been on the rise for weeks, indicators that the coronavirus is spreading rapidly. Since late May, the average number of newly reported cases each day has more than doubled to about 3,500, up from 1,500. That is not just the result of more testing: The percentage of tests coming back positive has soared from 4.5% to about 9%. Hospitalizations are also on the rise.

From my understanding, doctors now know how to fight against the virus, for instance, they now know that flipping a patient on their stomach as opposed to just leaving them on their back helps to reduce the mortality. (I never knew our lungs are closer to our back than our chest) They also know that drugs like remdesivire(spelling) also reduces the mortality rate.
We likely wont see mortality rates as high as we had in in the tri-state area because of what doctors now know about the virus. Also that tri-state area has a lot more population with folks living on top of each other and during the initial onslaught of the disease it was almost unmanageable.

Keep in mind there are 4 international airports in the area that had people bringing the virus to the area from other parts of the world. It was a perfect storm and very disastrous. But the point is that this virus is spreading like wildfire in the areas that opened up too soon. Anybody could have seen this coming, except the folks in charge who opened up too early. This didnt have to happen.

RE: Be Careful What You Wish For - Hokie Mark - 06-27-2020 06:27 AM

Masks are now mandatory in North Carolina.

From Novant Health:
[Image: mail?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmi.novanthealth.or...d.YXAA--~C]

both people unmasked: high risk
one person in mask: still medium risk
both people in masks: low risk

In states which do not require residents to wear masks in public, new coronavirus cases have RISEN by 84% over the last two weeks.
In states that mandate wearing masks in public, new cases have FALLEN by 25% over the last two weeks.

Is it really that hard to understand that CV-19 is a public health crisis and not some political issue? Follow the freaking science not some bs talking points. Mask work. The studies prove it.

Its really comical seeing you trying to advance some agenda, even though I dont know what it is exactly, except that you refuse to admit that there is a serious health issue in this country. There is a pandemic that is spreading like wildfire so much so that Texas is pausing their opening as we speak while the governor expresses regrets for opening too soon. and Florida is also taking more precautions after breaking another record of infections now for a whole week. And Europe is in the process of blocking Americans from coming to their continent, right along with Russia and Brazil. But you and your ilk can keep your head buried in the ground and trying to convince everyone that everything is fine.

on this very website, I believe I was the first to call for public mask wearing as a cost-effective solution ...
alas ...
