Athon Sun Belt Projections - EigenEagle - 06-11-2020 02:31 PM

East:
App State (9-4, 7-1)
Georgia Southern (6-6, 5-3)
Troy (5-7, 3-5)
Georgia State (4-8, 3-5)
Coastal Carolina (4-8, 3-5)

West:
Louisiana (11-2, 7-1)
Arkansas State (7-5, 6-2)
South Alabama (4-8, 3-5)
ULM (3-9, 2-6)
Texas State (2-10, 1-7)

Louisiana over App in the SBC CG.

I'm kinda disappointed the conference doesn't get more respect here. They have GS, Georgia State, Coastal, and Ark State going 1-3 in non-conference.

That implies:
GS losing to FAU (FAU a new coach, loses a lot, and it's in Paulson Stadium)
Georgia State losing to UNCC (I expect that to be a coin flip)
Coastal losing to EMU and Kansas at home (come on, they beat Kansas last year and will probably improve this year)
Ark State losing to Tulsa in Jonesboro

I mean, I guess none of those games are gimmes but do we really think we're going to lose all of them? And history shows the Sun Belt will get at least 1 P5 win every season but apparently we'll be 0-fer this year.

Projected to not finish last, but still don’t make it to bowl eligible. If this is how the year goes, we will have our programs third head coach in 2021.

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - kb325 - 06-11-2020 03:20 PM

Appy is not going to go 1-3 in OOC games...that would mean they have to lose to either UMass or Morgan State...not going to happen...plus I think they'll beat Wake Forest....they could easily be 10-2 on the regular season...9-3 if they don't handle Wake.

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - _x_ - 06-11-2020 03:22 PM

It's got App and Louisiana playing 13 games. So my guess is they have App going 2-2 in non-conference and losing the champ game.

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - kb325 - 06-11-2020 03:23 PM

My bad...that 4th loss is the Conference Championship game that they counted...still I think they beat Wake

Four bowl eligible teams? Nah. Magazine that does minimal research on the G5s.

A coaching change is very unlikely for most schools in 2020, especially one that shows improvement. Money for buyouts will not be very plentiful.

After year 3, how big can Campbell’s buyout be?

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - TrueBlueDrew - 06-11-2020 04:22 PM

6-6 would be a second straight year of regression for Lunsford. I think a lot of fans would start to turn on him after that. Some have already turned on his staff. He needs 7-8 wins to not go into 2021 on the hot seat.

He will be back next year if the Jags go 6-6, (4-4) in the conference.

If he doesn't go 0fer, he will be back.

With the clip of winning App has had, it would be hard not to be disappointed with only nine wins and no SB title.

with our fan base it better be at least 8 wins for him to feel somewhat "safe".

Exactly. We need to be building toward being a perennial contender for the Sun Belt title. 6-6 especially with an easier schedule than we had last season would be a clear step in the wrong direction.

This is just crap from someone who hasn't been paying attention. App and Louisiana are apparently the only two teams in the SBC that can play quality football!

App may take a step back this year but they tend to reload more than regroup so if the coaching is up to it they will be fine. UL has some holes to fill but I feel they are perhaps the best coached team in the SBC including last year in spite of the results at App. Georgia Southern and Georgia State return large numbers of starters and so does stAte so those five teams I feel are pretty good bets to be bowling. Troy, USA, Texas St and Coastal should all be improved so one or more of those will be in the mix as well. It's going to be a great season for the SBC.

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - CardinalBlackTrojan - 06-12-2020 09:23 AM

I don't forsee Troy going 5-7 again.

There's an absolute ton of offensive firepower this coming season. So even if we have a terrible pass defense again, we should be able to outscore some folks.

I also don't think the pass defense will be nearly as bad. All of those young DB's are back and we now have more depth there.

RE: Athon Sun Belt Projections - BirdofParadise - 06-12-2020 09:33 AM

We will fill our bowl slots.

I think Rusty Whitt is going to have the most impact this offseason of anyone in the program. Very solid hire.

Well if we are 4-8 with 18 returning starters off a bowl team then Elliott should be gone. LOL.

After year 3, how big can Campbell’s buyout be?

Even if it's only a couple of hundred thousand, will an athletic department dealing with serious economic shortfalls really pay a coach not to coach who now has the win total moving in the right direction?
