LSU announces football games vs in-state HBCUs Grambling and Southern - quo vadis - 06-01-2020 03:16 PM

LSU vs Grambling .... September 9, 2023
Both games in Tiger Stadium. Southern and Grambling have rich college football traditions but LSU has never played either before. Because these are in-state games and coming soon, they will almost surely be played, no buyouts. Southern and LSU are both in Baton Rouge, about 8 miles apart.
Southern and Grambling are members of the SWAC conference, FCS, and annually play a Bayou Classic rivalry game.

Haha .... the bolded part above is correct. As for beating LSU, we will likely win the halftime Battle of the Bands. But that will be it.

If only FSU and FAMU would let common sense prevail and do the same. I would love to see Gaines St (the road between the two campuses) on gameday.

That's pretty awesome.
No slam against the Golden Band from Tigerland, but yes, both Grambling and Southern will win halftime.

I don't mind seeing games like this. If you're going to do a FCS game then there's no reason not to get the region FCS team.

Both schools get big checks. And Southern only has the expense of charter buses to the other side of town. Pretty good deal.

Agreed, that would be a great scene in Tallahassee.
As a Southern fan, I have always enjoyed our on and off again rivalry with FAMU. The games between the great FAMU and Southern teams of the 1990s were always thrilling affairs.

On this theme, I would like to see Memphis and Tennessee State play. There is a symbiotic relationship between lots of TSU fans and the City of Memphis. Vanderbilt has played TSU in the past and seeing the Big Blue Tigers band at the half is always a treat.
