This could affect NMSU as Jans will move up the list of schools who may have had Keller in front of him

That's the pits! SFA is close to opening a new $26M 42,000 sq ft basketball performance center. It is supposed to be ready for use in July with everything completed in early 2021.

The Tweet linked in the article shows how it should look when completed.

Hit Football, too. Doesn't sound like it was self-inflicted. Carthel has to be thrilled. Wonder if any of his recruits will bail on him.

Carthel already has football turned around academically with 61 players with 3.0 gpa or above for this year.

Good. Hopefully he can keep his first two recruiting classes together, they were outstanding. I like Carthel. Hope he joins us in the new WAC Football, whenever that might be.

I'm sure Lonn will look at this and learn from it. New academic rules in D1, need to make doubly sure everything is buttoned up.

Congrats NMSU!

"This year, for instance, 23 teams face penalties due to failing to meet the APR benchmarks the NCAA requires. Of those, 18 are from historically black colleges and universities. The other five include the WAC’s Chicago State men’s basketball team, the McNeese State FCS-level football program and three sports at Stephen F. Austin."

Wow! More serious than I thought.

Bet BCG and Whitten are keeping a close eye on potential defectors, as they should be.

So much for SFA coming to the WAC. Where you at, Lamar?

It looks like Illinois Coach Brad Underwood and SFA's current coach Kyle Keller were the two offenders in basketball. Illinois better watch Underwood closely. Anyway, the three players most programs will be looking to scoop up (if they are truly academically eligible) are Seniors... Gavin Kensmil (6'7, 230) - 11.8 ppg & 6.8 rpg, Cameron Johnson (6'3, 200) - 11.4 ppg & 3.8 rpg, and Rotarius 'Roti' Ware (6'3, 190) - 9.5 ppg & 2.8 rpg. There are also four recent sigees (one D1 transfer, one JUCO, and two freshmen) which might be looking for a new home. The D1 transfer is UTEP's Nigel Hawkins. He might stick around at SFA since he has to sit out a transfer year anyway while SFA is on its death penalty.

The tweet above implies SFA received the "death penalty" for three sports. Unless I'm missing something, I think SFA received post-season bans for those three sports; not bans for the whole season as SMU did.

Quote:...Stephen F. Austin, played 82 ineligible players from 2013-2019. SFA will forfeit 300 games, loss of scholarships, 1 year ban “death penalty” for basketball, football, and baseball in 2020, 3 years probation beginning 2021 and loss of scholarships...

Here's the NCAA article. The negotiated resolution agreement linked within the article is interesting reading.

Not likely that the NCAA is going to give as harsh a punishment as they gave SMU.
