I thought I mis-counted - frankenheimer - 03-08-2020 06:17 AM

I counted and recounted 16 strikeouts for Landon Knack on my scoresheet. He had a great performance. And it looks like he's getting some looks at the next level.

I believe that's 51 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched, or something like that.

He's tearing it up right now.

I don't know how baseball scheduling works, but I wish the non conference competition was a little stronger. Our win-loss record looks good as well as most of our stats, but it's tough to see how we'll measure up with the Southern Conference teams.

It's kind of the nature of the beast to see a school like ETSU host a lot of teams from colder climates in February and March. Some of those teams might not get on their own fields until April and need to get games in.

For what it's worth, ETSU has the highest RPI in the SoCon a third of the way through the season. The top half of the league is pretty good, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the Bucs to be very competitive this year.

Yes, that field (field turf, or whatever they call it) really affords ETSU the chance to host a lot of games in February and March. It seems like any team that can jump on I-81 comes down to Johnson City to play. I think every home series thusfar has been a New York school not too far from I-81.

I know that northern schools are generally weaker baseball schools and ETSU is competing for visiting teams with ACC and SEC schools as well as southern mid-major schools. I can imagine that scheduling is tough. It just would be nice to get a better idea of how good we are.

Those 16 strikeouts came in just 6 innings. So, that's 16 of the 18 outs Knack recorded. (Not surprisingly, he didn't allow a run.)

And, it's not like Wagner is some little league team. They have wins this year over Marist, Ohio, William & Mary, Richmond, and Penn State.

Knack's performance should have him on everybody's radar screen.

There's been a group of guys with radar guns and MLB-logo gear his last couple starts at Thomas Stadium, so he is on at least a few radars! Glad to see he's getting some looks. I don't know how many other looks he will be getting. I agree with the actions made with regards to the virus, but it's unfortunate for baseball players getting looks at the next level.
