2020 Mid - American Conference Tournament - fallsdog - 03-07-2020 12:52 PM

Hopefully this thread will keep us entertained through next weekend. The MAC Tournament begins with campus site games on Monday.

The number one seed belongs to Akron. The Zips will await the winner of the Ohio/Central Michigan tilt in Athens. Ohio University is a team that I could see playing in the title game on Saturday. That is not to say that they will beat Central Michigan, let alone Akron. But I wouldn't be surprised they did.

Sticking with that side of the bracket the number four seed is Northern Illinois. For a brief moment this season I thought that maybe the Huskies were for real. Hogwash. You want to talk about a mediocre program, hop on their message board. I can't believe they beat Kent State....TWICE!
After the Buffalo/Miami scrimmage is over, don't be shocked if the Bulls tech fall Northern Illinois on their way to semi - final showdown with Akron or Ohio.

The number 2 seed belongs to Bowling Green. BG will await the winner of Monday's game between #7 Toledo and #10 Western Michigan.

The Ball State Cardinals are the number 3 seed. They will draw the winner of the game between Kent State and Eastern Michigan. If anybody should feel good about their shot to get to Friday, its Ball State. Obviously the good people around here don't want that to happen.

A few thoughts:
Thursday has the potential to be a good one in/for Cleveland. If Akron and Ohio University square off at noon and Buffalo is playing in the 2:30 slot, the early session may look a little less like the typical Thursday ghost town. Add to that the potential of Toledo and Bowling Green opening things up on Thursday evening and you may see more than a few local basketball junkies come out of the woodwork. Obviously Kent State will bring a few more bodies than EMU, but there is a bridge to cross first.

That bridge is the Eagles and their 2-3 zone. This has been an interesting board over the last couple of seasons. I will admit to having a rather smug outlook on KSU hoops and the future of the program.
For a few years now we have argued the validity of the "nothing really matters until March" mentality. That has transformed into a debate over whether or not fans should just be complacent and place no criticism on players or coaches because "that's just the way it is." Its all interesting stuff and there is a probably a happy medium out there somewhere.
But the reality is that on Monday the Golden Flashes HOST Eastern freaking Michigan in the MAC Tournament. Maybe a win or a loss is all that is riding on the game. But I think there are quite a few fans who would disagree. Perhaps those of us who came to expect martinis and free food at Flannery's followed by Golden Flash Basketball have become long in the tooth. Lets hope not.

Go Flashes!

Flannery's in March - no better time to be there!

Next up...Ball State!

Nice win tonight. Many assists. Even scoring. Hopefully this will last.

It appears as if Sendy is an avid reader of Flash Fanatics. In his post-game comments tonight he took anyone to task who has said the MAC is mediocre.

Double check but I believe it’s BW3 now

Yes the team finally got word that the forward pass is now legal.

Nice win. Enjoyable game to watch. Minus that late second half hiccup that cut the lead from 14 to 6 it was a solid effort from start to finish. Cautiously optimistic about Cleveland.

How bout #12 Miami bouncing #5 Buffalo tonight! There are no free wins in this league.

RE: 2020 Mid - American Conference Tournament - anti-zip - 03-09-2020 10:04 PM

I'll be honest. I doubt Akron loses, but I would not feel good about drawing OU if I were them. OU's only losses in the last 10 were to us, Akron, and BG. They won their game tonight but 20.

Although the confidence meter is on a coin toss, we should absolutely beat Ball St.

Yes BW3 on Huron is the new pregame spot.

If we get by BSU we're 4-0 with a combined margin of victory of +52 against our possible opponents in the next round.

Good for him

Also, BW3 is okay. The upstairs is kind of cool. I think Flannerys will still get my bucks, though.

BW3 is a corp partner of KSU. That is why the move was made.

okay. okay. i'll have one at both places!

RE: 2020 Mid - American Conference Tournament - burden - 03-10-2020 02:08 PM

For what’s its worth the Ivy League just cancelled their tournament and a county in California just said no groups over 1000 which will affect two San Jose Sharks games. With Cuyahoga county reporting 3 cases stay tuned.

RE: 2020 Mid - American Conference Tournament - fallsdog - 03-10-2020 02:20 PM

Yes this is unfortunate. I am of the simple opinion that it is best to let the experts make the decisions. Stay tuned is right.

RE: 2020 Mid - American Conference Tournament - burden - 03-10-2020 04:24 PM

Governor has just recommended no fans at indoor sporting events. He hasn’t ordered it but I have a feeling the announcement from the MAC might be coming soon.

I’m not optimistic so I’m not booking my hotel room yet. On the other hand, a case of fine craft beers just arrived so I’ll have plenty to do.
