At least Dixie seems like they could add some value to the WAC. That other school isn’t going to add anything but a warm body.

RE: WAC Baskettball week 18 (WAC week 10) - DoubleRSU - 03-02-2020 11:59 AM

That other school might be a warm body now, but they haven’t been 30 year D1 losers like UMKC, Chicago St, and UTRGV. Tarleton is no worse than UMKC.

RE: WAC Baskettball week 18 (WAC week 10) - NMSUPistolPete - 03-02-2020 01:10 PM

Tarleton State should win Tuesday. But their LSC Tournament run should end on Friday. St Edward's is ranked #10 in the nation in Division 2. And, "if" Tarleton State happened to upset St. Edward's, it is very likely they would have to meet West Texas A&M in the LSC Championship. West Texas A&M is ranked # 4 in the nation in Division 2. They might be a good addition to the WAC. Years ago, West Texas A&M (formerly West Texas State) participated in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Ranked/School/Points/Record/Previous Rank
1. Northwest Missouri State (11)... 369... 26-1... 1

9. Valdosta State... 254... 22-3... 11
10. St. Edward's... 247... 24-3... 7... Lone Star Conference

West Texas was also a NMSU conference mate from 41-61 in the Border Conference

Note that Dixie State is ranked #21 and IIRC, were in the top 5 early in the season.

Tarleton has a better commitment to sports. They’ll be a better long term member than UMKC and Chicago State. There aren’t talks at Tarleton of leaving their division and dropping down to be able to compete; they’re tending upward. I look forward to having them around.

30 year losers? Exaggerating a little?

UMKC has a winning record...as of today.
UTRGV had a winning record last year.

UTRGV had a winning record last year.

UMKC in 31 D1 Seasons have 9 seasons with finishing with a winning record. 5 winning seasons since 2000-2001.

UTRGV in 52 D1 Seasons have 15 winning seasons. 3 winning seasons since 2000-2001.

Chicago St in 36 years has 3 winning seasons, 2 of the 3 happened in their 1st two seasons in the mid 80's while in the last winning season was 08-09, but under Dildy they won a GWC conference tournament in a season where they went 11-22.

TSU and DSU will be stronger than this 3 have been historically.

How many times have those 3 been in the NIT or NCAAs in Division 1?

Do you believe TSU and DSU will have less than that in 2054?

I’m rooting for Chi St and UTRGV to whip their a$$ next year.

RE: WAC Baskettball week 18 (WAC week 10) - NMSUPistolPete - 03-02-2020 07:44 PM

Will anyone root for CSUB to win in the Big West and UMKC to win the Summit next season? Or, does anyone care?

I prefer to focus on more recent stats. Like last Saturday in Phoenix.

Honestly I completely forgot that we ever had Idaho, until I looked back at the old schedules just now and remembered that we played them. Imagine it'll be the same with CSUB and UMKC after a few years.

Enjoy it b/c its only happened 4 times. lol. It's been close on average between the two teams. Love what Hill has begun with UTRGV.

That's what happens when you self impose a death penalty to a school that wasn't that great in sports to begin with.

Ah, the mention of good ole Del Ray Brooks. Before Sub Belt was a "Fun Belt"

What I'm glad about Tarleton State is they are a western team and as was mentioned have more resources and commitment to sports. Having an FCS football team and getting big pay days scheduling P5 teams will also help them just like Dixie State. Tarleton State is schedule already to play Texas Tech and Dixie vs. BYU. Bye CSUB and UMKC. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.
