New CCHA seeking commissioner, taking open applications via Yahoo Mail - Mav - 02-25-2020 02:20 PM

And they have a website!

It looks like they're surfing the Web on their way to the new millennium. If you're on the site for more than three minutes, does it become a flying-toaster screensaver?

This is a new conference, and they are already looking for a leader to carry on their "storied tradition". And we thought traditions took a long time to develop.

Considering the Conference was born yesterday & the teams are essentially still in the WCHA, of course they're not gonna have an official website yet.

The programs that make up the conference aren't new.

I’ll take the job. My first act as commissioner is to invite Miami and WMU to join.

I'm much more comfortable on AOL's curated forums than this information superhighway.

Aren't they reviving the name of a dead college hockey conference? How hard would it be to claim the records of the dead conference? How much membership overlap is there between the old and new CCHA?

I don't know college hockey, but would this make too much sense?

CCHA (8): Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Miami-OH, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, UAH, Western Michigan
NCHC (6): Bemidji State, Minnesota State, Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, Omaha, St. Cloud State
WCHA (6): Air Force, Alaska-Anchorage, Alaska-Fairbanks, Arizona State, Colorado College, Denver

Nobody wants to be in a conference with the Alaska schools or UAH and a conference of six doesn't produce enough games.

OK...

CCHA (7): Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Miami-OH, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, Western Michigan
WCHA (9): Air Force, Bemidji State, Colorado College, Denver, Minnesota State, Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, Omaha, St. Cloud State

And they could have a scheduling agreement so that one team in each conference isn't left idle during conference play.

Or better yet, combine both groups into one big happy 16-team conference.

Simon Fraser is looking into have varsity men's hockey to D1. Northern State is looking to turn their men's club team to D1 varsity team.

How do you propose that Northern State pulls off this trick when it appears they have no hockey at all. Also, the city of Aberdeen has just one hockey arena and it has a capacity of only 1,600 which is well below the arena size requirements of any conference they would join.

Better yet, what proof does he have that Northern State is considering being D1 in hockey ?

Well, Northern State COULD start D2 hockey and join the NE10 as an affiliate member. The good part of that is if they win the conference title they can say they are "D2 National Champs". 02-13-banana 03-lmfao

NCHC was created as a way to get schools that invested more in the sport away from the cost-cutters. They wanted to have a membership that could compete with Big Ten resources. Bemidji can't and never will. UND's the main architect of the conference and has no interest in giving up their rivalry with Denver, especially since they lost their main rival in Minnesota with the creation of B1G hockey. Air Force wants to be in the same conference as Army and is willing and able to travel east for all of their away conference games to do so, and they realize competitively the AHA is as good as they can hope to achieve.
If the EST schools in the NCHC move to the CCHA, I can see the NCHC poaching Minnesota State and adding Arizona State. WCHA isn't coming back in any form unless a bunch of schools start sponsoring varsity hockey out west, which I doubt will happen in the near future. UNLV seemed like the only likely candidate in recent years and even they gave the classic soft denial of "We'd do it if some donor fronted us the $50 million to invest in D1 facilities."

Not until they change their name to Northern South Dakota State

... [much good stuff clipped] ...

THANK YOU for reminding people (or letting some know for the first time) what the whole point of the NCHC is!

Quote: ... If the EST schools in the NCHC move to the CCHA, I can see the NCHC poaching Minnesota State and adding Arizona State. ...

It comes up every once in a while on the MAC forum about getting all three MAC schools in the same hockey conference ...

... I am not sure I really want the Redhawks leaving the NCHC. If we get a good team together with good chemistry, we have a better chance at an at-large bid out of the NCHC than out of a deliberately smaller-budget conference. I am not a big supporter of the "let's find a smaller pond where we can be a bigger fish" theory of conference membership, if it happens to be one of my own teams that we are talking about.

As if we are going to search through your 13.5k fantasy posts to find it. Whatever was said two years ago means nothing today since Northern State currently has no club hockey team to turn into a D1 varsity team. And, there is no suitable arena in town.
