so sounds more and more like we're going to see free agency in college sports.... Just horrible IMO....

like what Ewing said today-

It is going to be wild, yes, but it is also fair to the student-athletes IMO. They are under one-year scholarships that get renewed annually. The school can cut ties with them whenever they want without penalty. Schools can fire and/or replace coaches, who decide they no longer want players on the roster and pursue other options, without penalty. Coaches can sign long-term contracts and leave after a year without penalty.

I used to be in the camp of having players sit out a year if they transfer. I now think it would be good for everyone involved. No more weird exceptions to players immediately playing and others sitting out a year. Just make it universal, albeit in a one-time thing. If a player wants to transfer a second time, then they can sit out a year.

I still don't understand what the NCAA was thinking doing what they did with the waivers. They had completely shut that down.....

I think we're going to see massive poaching of teams- not what college sports should be about IMO.

It seems fair to the players. I'm sure it's been answered somewhere, but I wonder how they'll handle first-semester transfers.

I'm the exact same way. Used to not like the idea but the more I've thought about it the more I think a student athlete should have the right to change schools if they're unhappy. It's tough to make the best choice in terms of what school to attend at 18, and it seems wrong to force a kid to stay in a situation they're unhappy with.

At the same time, I think a lot of 18 year old kids can be manipulated into leaving by adults who don't have their best interest at heart, and sticking it out through a tough situation definitely helps build character. So I can see counter arguments against it.

Ultimately though, an 18+ year old should be able to decide where they want to play and attend school with no penalty.
