Take all the teams from the SEC and ACC and have 2 conferences. One for relegation and one for promotions. Every year the bottom 3 of the champions league get relegated to the minor league and the 3 best teams from the minor league get promoted to the champions league. Do the same thing for football and basketball.

I love it. Imagine a football conference with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and Florida (and if Florida State gets their act together, them) as well as a basketball conference with Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville, and Virginia.

My "basketball schools" league (comprising the programs I both root for and that I would like to have included based on their history with the schools I like and geographic factors):

North Division:

Butler
Cincinnati
Dayton
DePaul
Georgetown
Indiana
Marquette
Saint Louis

South Division

Belmont
Georgia Tech
Memphis
Louisville
North Carolina
North Carolina State
UAB
Vanderbilt

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - MidknightWhiskey - 02-13-2020 11:59 PM

UCF, FSU, UF, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Clemson, South Carolina, Navy, Alabama, Auburn, Pitt, Penn St

This would get a ton of great rivalries in 1 conference. Gets the 3 most relevant Florida programs in, sorry Miami but you've done nothing since you left the Big East. Also is it really a dream conference if Notre Dame isn't a full member?

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - Kit-Cat - 02-14-2020 12:10 AM

A-10 of the Midwest...

Saint Louis
Northern Ill.
Illinois-Chicago
Milwaukee
Western Mich.
Central Mich.
IUPUI
Ball St.
Eastern Mich
Toledo
BGSU
Kent St.
Ohio
Miami

10 in FB to split the pie less ways but 14 in basketball to dominate the Midwest corridor.

North: Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
South: Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, West Virginia

Two protected annual crossovers per team preserve important FB rivalries like Michigan/OSU, PSU/Pitt, and Pitt/WVU.

Also, coupled with this, a stacked ACC:

Atlantic: Clemson, Miami-FL, NC State, South Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest
Coastal: Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina

Similarly, 2 protected crossovers per team maintain key annual matchups such as Clemson/GT, FSU/Miami, NC State/UNC, and UNC/UVA.

Army/Navy play every year in a OOC match up. The game doesn't count towards conference standings so it wont interfere with the CCG. I believe Wake played one of the other ACC NC schools in OOC one year so it's not unprecedented.

FB Championship in Giants Stadium, BBall tourny at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly.

Thats Orange Bowl contract worthy team and a tough top 3 BBall conference especially if UConn can ever get its act together again.

PAC, AAC, MAC, and MWC are fine.

Great Plains Conference: TCU, Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State.

Big 14: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Boston College.

ACC: Miami, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, West Virginia, Maryland, Navy, Rutgers

SEC: LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, FSU, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson

Sun Belt: NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, Rice, North Texas, Texas State, ULL, ULM, La Tech, Arkansas State, USM, South Alabama

CUSA: UAB, Troy, Middle Tennessee, WKU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, FAU, FIU, App State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, Marshall, JMU/Liberty

Did I forget anybody?

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - ken d - 02-14-2020 09:27 AM

I started out designing my dream ACC. Then, it grew from there. I decided to realign the entire FBS with a premise that every conference should contain either 9, 10 or 12 members to facilitate uniform 8 game conference schedules. This became my new ACC. The members are listed in order of their 10 year average Sagarin rating. In parentheses are the FBS ranking for each team based on those averages.

Clemson (3)
Georgia (7)
Florida State (12)
Florida (19)
Penn State (21)
Virginia Tech (31)
Georgia Tech (41)
North Carolina (43)
NC State (46)
Virginia (69)

The average Sagarin rating (not ranking) for this new ACC was 79. When I finished realigning, I still had a clearly defined P5, though with fewer teams than we have now because of the limits on conference size. My new SEC had the second highest rating of the P5 at 78. They were followed by the XII (also at 78 due to rounding), the PAC at 77 and the B1G at 77.

I was mildly surprised at the competitive balance among the five conferences. None of them had fewer than four teams ranked among the Top 25 in ten year average. If there were an eight team CFP that included only the highest ranked conference champions and independents, each of the P5 conferences would very likely produce a tournament worthy representative every year.

The only schools not in one of my P5 conferences who were ranked in the Top 25 were Notre Dame (13), Baylor (24) and Boise State (25). This is the rest of my new P5, listed in order of their Sagarin rating.

SEC: Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Central Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and South Florida.

XII: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas.

PAC: Oregon, Stanford, Washington, Southern Cal, Utah, Arizona State, UCLA, Arizona, Washington State, California, Oregon State and Colorado.

B1G: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue and Illinois.

Note that this alignment restores the B1G to its configuration prior to adding Penn State. The XII is almost back to its original configuration, minus Colorado who went to the PAC and Baylor (just because). They were replaced by TCU and Arkansas. The PAC remains as it is presently configured.

The remainder of the current ACC becomes part of a restored Big East, which includes: West Virginia, Louisville, Pitt, Cincinnati, Boston College, Duke, Syracuse, Maryland, Wake Forest and Rutgers. Their average Sagarin rating is 71, which makes them a tweener conference, along with a new Gulf Coast Conference at 66, made up of Baylor plus regional teams from the AAC and CUSA, and the MWC with a 63 rating.

No don't. Keep us. It's good as is and you won't need to worry about UCONN trying to make up a rivalry.

LOL not really. Just had to drop one for even divisions and preferred having Arkansas back. Houston bs. Rice was the toss-up and I sided with Rice just based on history. Houston being a relative late comer to the SWC and now has spent more of its history in a conference with Memphis than it did as a member of the SWC. I like UH and their programs, but in a “dream conference” situation they got the boot because someone had to.
