Design Your Dream Conference(s) - schmolik - 02-13-2020 04:00 PM

This might be overlapping with other threads on this board but I thought I'd try this out.

Design your dream conference without regards to realistic things, GOR's, economics, geography, etc, unless you want. The only rule(s) are they have to be Division 1 schools and any other rules you want. Want it in just football or just men's basketball? Go ahead! Want a cross country conference? Your call! It's not realistic? Team X would never be with Team Y? Who cares? Be as creative as you want! Pick your favorite school(s) and pair them with the schools you want to play against. Don't like dead weight schools in your current conference? Get rid of them. You're the boss.

My "New" Big Ten

Illinois (Undergraduate Degree)
Penn State (Graduate Degree)
Pitt (Rival)
Temple (Hometown)
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Purdue
Wisconsin

No teams west of the Mississippi River. No snotty rich private schools (yeah I'm talking to you, Northwestern).

My "New" ACC/Big East Combo

North Carolina
Duke
Kentucky
Louisville
Villanova
Virginia
Maryland
Syracuse
Connecticut

You could also call it the "Champions" conference. Every team has won at least one men's basketball championship since 2002 (Louisville's was vacated but they still won it and if you go back to 1986 they also won).

I know I'd want Florida and Florida State together and Texas and Texas A&M together just like I'd want Penn State and Pitt together and Kentucky and Louisville together.

Good with the ACC minus a few dingleberries; Wake and BC.

Divisions would need to be shuffled just a little and ND can continue to be a partial.

This may be the first time "dingleberries" has been used on the board. It's insulting to Wake and BC, but I have to admit I chuckled.

That's dream conference.

Best possible "realistic" conference realignment for App:

AAC adds VCU in Oly and AppSt in FB.

AppSt Oly goes back to SoCon with Belmont in tow to keep the even Private/Public split.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the upcoming Big East lineup starting in July. Would be nice if Syracuse was involved, but otherwise anything with a strong group in the DC-Boston corridor and MSG full for the tournament is going to work for me.

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - RutgersGuy - 02-13-2020 07:19 PM

Northeastern Athletic Conference the NAC!

North: Rutgers, Cuse, BC, UMass, UConn, Temple, PSU, Army (FB Only)

South: Pitt, WVU, VT, Cincy, Louisville, Maryland, UVA, Navy (FB Only)

Army/Navy play every year in a OOC match up. The game doesn't count towards conference standings so it wont interfere with the CCG. I believe Wake played one of the other ACC NC schools in OOC one year so it's not unprecedented.

FB Championship in Giants Stadium, BBall tourny at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly.

Thats Orange Bowl contract worthy team and a tough top 3 BBall conference especially if UConn can ever get its act together again.

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - IWokeUpLikeThis - 02-13-2020 07:39 PM

The big ones would be going back to the 7 regional conferences (ACC, BE, B1G, BXII, PAC, SEC, SWC) and the Big Ten going back to its midwestern roots - which its fans almost unanimously want.

Realistic:

*Football-only / Gonzaga non-football

RE: Design Your Dream Conference(s) - Nerdlinger - 02-13-2020 08:40 PM

I'm not a fan of any of these teams, but it'd be neat to see a greater Northeast conference like this:

North: Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
South: Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, West Virginia

Two protected annual crossovers per team preserve important FB rivalries like Michigan/OSU, PSU/Pitt, and Pitt/WVU.
