UNCW - dan10 - 12-30-2019 07:40 AM

We are 8 point favorites against a team that will likely finish 9th this season. They just lost their floor general (Toews) officially to transfer/going pro. This team is a mess and likely will be looking for a new coach next season. This has to be a game we win and win big. We had a bad stretch that CofC took control, but we stayed relatively even with them elsewhere. While I think those spurts against us will continue to happen, it bodes well that we can compete this season in the weak CAA. Home against UNCW has to kick off a string of wins. Our first 6 games are soft and we need to get out in front. CofC was a reasonably expected loss, now is the time to right the ship at home.

UNCW- 70
Drexel- 83

Some early turnovers for each team, back and forth pace. 14-12 UNCW at the under 12 timeout. 6 turnovers already by us.

RE: UNCW - dan10 - 12-30-2019 07:36 PM

Up 26-20. Time to keep it up and get some stops and some distance

RE: UNCW - dan10 - 12-30-2019 07:40 PM

lead 31-24 at the under 4 timeout in the first half

RE: UNCW - dan10 - 12-30-2019 07:51 PM

33-31 at half. UNCW hit a 3 at the buzzer

9 turnovers for UNCW
8 turnovers for Drexel

Cam saving us so far. 45-42 UNCW

RE: UNCW - dan10 - 12-30-2019 09:02 PM

We hold on to a victory 71-66. Ugly. Sloppy. Lots of turnovers. They didnt make us pay for the turnovers. We made them look competent. So far not a good sign for the start of conference play. UNCW is a team we need to be able to win going away against at home and we struggled.

31 points for Cam

This team is frustrating to watch. Sometimes I wonder if they actually practice together. Nobody seems to be willing to step up their game except for Wynter, who was phenomenal once again. He kind of reminded me of Damion Lee who would put his team on his shoulders and carry them to victory. That's exactly what Wynter did tonight.

Not sure if Drexel just was great at their perimeter defense tonight or UNCW is terrible at shooting 3's, but the dub shot just 1 for 6 from 3 point range, and a couple of those attempts were desperation shots in the final minute. The one that they made, I clearly called. When Drexel had the ball up 33-28 in the final seconds of the first half, and predicted that Drexel would find a way to screw things up and allow the dub to score at the buzzer, and that's exactly what happened. It seems like a recurring theme with these Dragons.

They shoot threes well at .385 including tonight. Their four players with at least 10 makes are Jaylen Sims (40-90 for .444), Mike Okauru (15-38 for .395), Jake Boggs (10-26 for .385), and Brian Tolefree (13-31 for .419).

They did not need to shoot them tonight. Our lack of defense gave them good looks elsewhere.
