In a related note, Chris Gardner tweeted the following regarding ESPN+ production costs from the ECU AD.

'East Carolina athletics director Jon Gilbert said each broadcast will cost the athletic department around $6,500-$7,500 to hire announcers and a production crew. Multiplied by 45, that’s more than $300,000 annually spent on broadcasting games...'

I find it VERY interesting that the MWC still hasnt gotten their deal. Not saying anything is gonna happen, but its weird it has taken this long.

With that said, I think were gonna take a hit. People underestimated the value of Uconns basketball brand. They may have been bad at football, but they were a national powerhouse and brought in viewers for bball.

I hope we get the option to replace them and maintain the current amount... I would love if ESPN would let us expand by 3 but Ill take 1.

We've already known about this guys

RE: Revised TV deal coming - Agust - 12-12-2019 12:22 PM

i think it may be in relation to adding new team members down the road.
that was one thing i was interested about was would we get an extra 8 mil for adding new teams or would the pool come from the already signed contract?

either way i think this might have to be negative because Aresco usually highlights the positive and he has been very quiet on the issue. i could be wrong though.

I think they cut out UConn's share, nothing more. No way in hell losing UConn basketball costs us more than their full share, b/c UConn football actually hurt our football product, which draws 70-80% of our TV money.

RE: Revised TV deal coming - NBPirate - 12-12-2019 12:33 PM

OR the AAC could be adding a Colorado State type of team

We are losing a market though... Uconn had a good draw and pulled decent numbers in NY. I dont think we take a major hit, but we were just under $7 million and it will be interesting to see how close we stay there.

the REAL question is what terms will they put in for expansion. Can we select anyone and be guaranteed another $7 mil per year or do they get to hand pick?

RE: Revised TV deal coming - UofMemphis - 12-12-2019 12:35 PM

I'm sure they'll (ESPN) want to keep UConn's share as compensation for their loss...I'm assuming it'll be 6.94 million x11 instead of x12

I mean, I doubt ESPN wants to give us a raise for UConn leaving.

Correct. Not really news. The news is that it’s finally being addressed by the parties involved. Given that 70-80% of the value of the deal comes from football (where UConn has almost no value), I doubt it will be too significant a hit.

Now that the football season is over they have the numbers to discuss

when the contract deals emerged Aresco said the contract took into account the departure of 1 or 2 of the top programs. this whole reworking the deal makes it seem like uconns departure wasn't taken into account. so it would be news.

we are going to have to wait for the commercial appeal to break the news again.

we don't know the contract language so it's possible they're simply removing UConn's share as per the contract...we don't really know.

I say send the bill to Yukon.

RE: Revised TV deal coming - NBPirate - 12-12-2019 01:33 PM

Should have waited to negotiate UConn exit fees until when TV implications were more concrete.

RE: Revised TV deal coming - gulfcoastgal - 12-12-2019 01:34 PM

I'm sure this is related to keeping the deal whole.

RE: Revised TV deal coming - gulfcoastgal - 12-12-2019 01:36 PM

Does an expanded playoff with a G5 spot push BYU into a conference?

RE: Revised TV deal coming - Foreverandever - 12-12-2019 01:41 PM

IF Aresco is smart he negotiates this so if we add another team we have to renegotiate the deal taking into account performance of the added team and the performance of the conference. This would create a real look in making this contract more palpable with its length. Protects ESPN as well if we add Georgia St or Charlotte for example.

RE: Revised TV deal coming - NBPirate - 12-12-2019 01:42 PM

That screams someone from MWC or BYU
