On CBS Sports, not measured by Nielsen Group.

I know the time of the game sucks, but the big 12 championship has turned out to be a great idea for the big 12. It probably helped OU get into the CFP this year and defintely helped them get in last season.

On top of that, they have been generating pretty solid numbers for their games. They were the #3 rated championship game in 2017 (5.9M), #2 in 2018 (10.16M), and #3 in 2019 (8.7M).

For as much flack as the conference office got for reviving the game, it seems to have worked out for them.

B1G game recovered from last years game which was only viewed by (8.66M). SEC game was down from 17.5M.

I agree. That extra "data point" helped OU both last year and this year. It also would have helped the winner of a 2nd game between 11-1 TCU and 11-1 Baylor in 2014. I don't like the rematch after a round-robin schedule, but the game serves the purposes of helping to get a team into the CFP and generating some extra revenue for the conference.

I don't like the 11 AM kickoff, but as long as it's the best game in its time slot, it's going to get pretty good ratings.

The silence from P6 detractors in this thread is pretty telling.

Talk up the MWC and the rest of the G4 all you want. People actually care to watch AAC football and that is where the money is at.

I am a bit shocked at the MWC ratings, since one poster from Arkansas always argues Boise gets similar ratings to Ohio State and SEC football.

Does Boise have a big following in Arkansas?

Correct.... and the AAC had to go up against the SEC during their time slot. If SEC was not playing during that time slot, make one wonder if AAC could have doubled their number. Same could be said of the ACC going up against B1G.

RE: TV Ratings for Football CCG - Chappy - 12-12-2019 11:17 AM

Excellent numbers for the AAC with SEC and MWC on at the same time.

Hard to get an exclusive window unless we were to move to Thursday, but then we'd be up against the NFL.

Congrats. Only 1.1 million behind the most ho-hum and lopsided P5 CCG ever!

You attempted to spin the numbers. Not very well, but at least you attempted it.

Very poor attempt, considering the AAC in pretty much the exact same time-slot beat the MWC by over 2 million. Also good job MWC getting beat by the Sun-Belt.

RE: TV Ratings for Football CCG - arkstfan - 12-12-2019 05:51 PM

AAC doesn't surprise me at all. Good window. OTA broadcast. Both teams ranked and getting good press. Competitive game that didn't have the tune-out that likely plagued the numbers of some games, benefitted from non-SEC folks flipping away from the SEC title game.

Sun Belt came in better than I expected.

No question, the AAC beat the MW like a drum. However, the AAC game had the advantage of being OTA, and of having two ranked teams in their game vs just one for the MW.

But of course, the reason the AAC is on ABC is because of perceived greater interest, and having two ranked teams is a function of having stronger teams, so while those factors help partially explain the higher rating, they simultaneously emphasize the greater overall strength and power of the AAC as well.

It shouldn't have to be explained (for the 1000th time) that separation from group X doesn't mean you are in group Y. If I start out in LA and drive to El Paso, I can rightfully say I'm no longer on the west coast, but it doesn't mean I'm on the east coast.

The AAC is getting paid $7m a year for the next 12 years. That's a lot more than any other "G" is getting, but it's a lot closer to "G" than it is to "P", by a long shot.

And for the 1,000th time, the P6 campaign isnt about (using your analogy) claiming we've already reached the East Coast; P6 campaign is the AAC saying "We're on our way to the East Coast and we're confident that we're capable of making it. Don't talk about us in the same breath with the four who broke down outside of Bakersfield. When you're planning your "East Coast" structure for five years from now...count on us being there and ready to work with you."
