GaSo vs. Liberty in Cure Bowl, could it be any better - NewTimes - 12-09-2019 06:33 AM

After years of LU begging C-USA and the SBC for an invite, and both conferences saying no, the stars align and LU plays it's first bowl game with GaSo. LU's recent actions of acquiring indy status, and hiring HC Freeze, with all his baggage, has it's admins enjoying a mild gloat of satisfaction with the snubs. The SBC was never a good fit for LU. The reasons LU fans proposed for years hoping for an invite fell on deaf ears. Granted the LU perception, irrational statements by it's Prez, and it's overt political and social positions justified the SBC saying no. It is and was best LU become indy as no conference, at the time wanted them in their club. And there is more. Much more.

The lightning rod that LU is going to generate lots of interest on this board as a bowl opponent. With all it's dimples, wrinkles, offenses, convocations, rigid rules, and weak schedule, the game is going to stimulate many SBC fans to unite and support GaSo not to lose to LU, at any costs.

So the upside is all for LU, win or lose. The media will have a multitude of stores about LU. HC Freeze will generate lots of stores with his past actions. LU's first bowl game. and GaSo will be favored to win. And in the end, it is best that LU had to go indy. SBC fans get the bash all things about LU that are void of football. Monitor the media mentions before the game. I'm betting LU gets 60-70% of the pre-game media coverage.

And then the game will begin and play between the lines will dominate the talk and all the rhetoric will be put on hold. And if LU wins, GaSo will receive lots of criticism and critique. And when LU in the future plays another SBC team in a bowl, the hate and dislike will be even greater. Interest only a checkered past of desire and genuine dislike could create. And it is great for each team's fans interest.

In short, no one cares about Liberty.

No one will care about this game.

This is likely the last time the AAC shorts this bowl as it is moving to an ESPN broadcast for 2020 to 2025. Enjoy yourself.

Lastly, don't confuse Liberty press with Hugh Freeze press. The same house of cards that FAU built with Lane Kiffin is going to apply here with Freeze.

More like they will be talking about the playoffs and NY6 the entire game while we drag you up and down the field for 60 minutes.

CBSSN does a good job of staying focused on the game. I feel like ESPN gives cues to their play by play guys in the booth to talk about other things.

I actually like Ryan Leaf in the booth because he focuses intently on what's in front of him. Comments about other games don't really seem like his number one priority and more like a passing interest. Usually, in past years for Sun Belt ESPN games, you'd see the announcers more interested in other games than the game they are calling.

TL:DR

Nobody wanted LU. LU got lucky to get a bowl bid. It would be an embarrassment for GS if they lost to LU, because of how badly nobody cares about LU.

Excited for it! I’m expecting both teams to have a good day offensively, so we’ll just have to see who comes out on top. I could even see a situation where GS has to try to slow down our offense in order to limit the amount of time Liberty has on offense.

The Cure Bowl is gonna be a lot of fun when it moves to the Orlando City MLS stadium next year. New facility, close to downtown shops/bars, and the 25k capacity will look great on TV

I was hoping UCF would play App St in the Cure Bowl this year. I think it would have been a good game and drawn national interest. Good luck to the Sun Belt in all your bowls.
