I wasn't going to start my usual game thread, as one was started Sat evening & I don't like multiple threads on the same subject, but I had a couple requests & no objections as of yet:

I'm sure Potomac or someone will do the national stat comparisons..

Take care of the football and JMU should win this. Turnovers are always a "captain obvious" sort of stat, but UNI is #5 in FCS turnover margin and we all know defense is their weapon. JMU is also doing well in this area as are most quarter-finalist teams not surprisingly, but we simply cannot afford the old Nooch to appear and throw a few picks. Run the rock, dominate on the lines, keep the ball and find yourself in the semi-finals (probably against Montana if I had to bet). Wet weather is a wild card that I hope the team does not have to worry about on Fri night.

Those are some tall, corn-fed Iowa-sized fellers right there. Maybe JMU should start recruiting for a couple of linemen in the mid-west to mix with our East Coast stock. It is strange to me that given the size of UNI’s OL that UNI’s stats don’t show they’re particularly good at running the ball.

UNI’s FR QB is listed at 5’11” and only completes about 55% of his passes? Maybe the problem there is he can’t see over the top of the OL trees trying to protect him.

As is the case in most games, this one will be decided up front in the trenches. If the trenches are a “push” will JMU’s speed, superior QB play and skill guys beat UNI’s beef?

While NDSU and a healthy SDSU (first regular season contest) beat UNI rather handily, I hope the weather doesn’t take away JMU’s advantage in the passing game. JMU should win easily, but JMU fans said the same thing about Weber a couple years ago.

Size does not equate to quality necessarily. Also, I believe I have read UNI fans indicate that the team overall is very young, with many Fr. and So. playing in place of upperclassmen that are injured, although BDK's post suggests more balance. They have low expectations for how far they will go in this year's playoffs, but they feel great about the next couple of years.

We can see by the numbers they are offensively challenged,

And from what I’ve watched of them, there ability to score at all is heavily dependent on hitting deep balls, especially to Weston.

Throwing deep balls requires lengthy pass protection. Other than against ndsu, have they faced a front four like ours? I doubt it.

Daka and carter should be feasting on sack opportunities if they attempt long throws

Can we stop with the old nooch talk? It's obvious he is not the same player and he even called it out in the post game press conference that he is tired of hearing it. It was fine for the first couple games this season but he's played lights out for 13 games this year.

I agree. There is no old Nooch and new Nooch. There is a coaching change that has designed an offense tailored more to Nooch's skillset and more importantly, has improved offensive line play a ton! Stop with the old Nooch insult, please.

yep. nooch has quieted that crowd and had a great year leading us.

that said, to be fair, if you watched closely enough, you saw some signs of the old riverboat gambler "Nooch" on Saturday. He was lucky we were playing an inferior opponent that was not quite good enough to exploit that.

We don't need Dinucci to get too far into Nooch persona. just stay Ben, and who he was for 11 wins after the WVU game and we will be fine each and every week we play.

Despite them having a good defense, I am not concerned about our ability to score on them. The only thing that has me concerned is our DB's against their 1st Team WR. On Saturday we had a number of plays early on where our DB was burned and their QB overthrew the pass. Both times it would have gone for ~60 yard TDs if they had connected. I think there was also another one where we were called for DPI because the WR ran right past us and we grabbed him. If the Mon.QB had been a little sharper they could've delivered a few more blows early in the game and with UNI bringing in a good WR we need to make sure we are keeping a safety over top on whatever side he is on.

Yep. I've posted this a few places, but that is their offense.

From all i've seen, their scoring plays are coming from long throws.

We need Daka and Carter to have great games and get to the QB early so there is no time for long throws. And maybe blitz more too.

If they don't hit those, i don't see them scoring on us at all.

They may have a good defense, but what happens to that defense when their offense can't sustain drives?
I think UNI can hold us for a while, but if that offense as as ineffective as they have shown to be, we'll to do UNI what we did to Monmouth. We'll grind out drives and tire out their defense and the second half we will have our way with them.
We are firing on all cylinders right now while UNI is firing on half of theirs.
They have no shot if they can't stop our offense.

Pretty sure the WR may have suffered a concussion in the SDSU game so there is a chance that he is not available.

We will get beat for a big play probably twice, maybe only once if its wet. The question becomes whether its a touchdown play or just a long pass/return. I can live with a 1st and 10 from the 25 completion for 50 yards because I think after that, we can stop them. Averaging 25 yards per catch is astounding, I don't care what conference or level you are playing.

Agree 100%, it is really getting old........it is like folks are waiting for even a mediocre game to say....see I told ya so.

It is actually rather insulting and demeaning & I thought as Dukes we were better than this......I mean seriously Thorpe and Birdsong did not have to put up with this crap.

Give it a rest and just support the guy, what more does he need to do. He has literally played 2 poor games in 2 years......and in one of those games the entire team played poorly at UNH and the other one was the MH circus atmosphere/distraction game at Colgate.
