Fairfield Game Sunday - bubbadog57 - 12-07-2019 07:04 AM

Stags are 2-6, but are coming off a solid upset win over Texas A&M. They have also defeated Holy Cross with losses to such as Southern Cal, Davidson, Maryland and UMass, all on the road.

This is no walk in the park for our good guys...Fairfield has always fielded competitive teams and are tough to defeat on their home court. This is the first of a very difficult schedule of six road games in the next seven W&M will play....including three opening CAA games on the road at the end of this (at Elon, Hofstra and Northeastern.

Crazy scheduling.

Fairfield Game Sunday - Tribal - 12-07-2019 07:56 AM

Their always competitive team was 9-22 last year and Texas A&M isn't good.

That said, they've played some solid teams. We need to get VV and Knight going in the paint and protect the ball.

Game will show on ESPN+

The game against St Francis is actually neutral, not road. It also is in DC, which with our alumni base effectively should make that game be Kaplan on the road.

What venue in DC?

The Mystics Arena at St Elizabeth's. Smart to get the team a game where the conference tourney will be played.

A&M isn't great, but they're still a power conference team.

I think Fairfield is better than their record - they have a 4 point loss to Bucknell, a 2 point loss to UMass, an OT loss to Loyola, and a 7 point loss to USC. They could easily be 5-3 right now, we can't be overconfident entering this game.

That said, their only true big is a 6'10 freshman averaging 2.8 ppg and 3 rpg (He also shoots 25% from the FT line, so they're not gonna play him in end game situations), if we play well we'll win by double digits.

They do have a bunch of 6'8 players on their roster, but Nate and VV still have a decent size advantage over them.

They played and lost their first two "home" games to start the season at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. This is their first true home game back on campus at small Alumni Hall. Fairfield goes as 6'5" G Landon Taliaferro goes. He was 10-15 for 3 pointers against Texas A&M, but went 0-9 in their loss to Davidson in the prior game. Minimize him, execute our game and we should win. Don't come ready to play hard and defend, then who knows.

Interesting and humorous game summary on their
message board which includes a history of our mascots. Kudos to the author. Worth a read. Go Tribe!

Is the part about accidentally setting fire to Richmond true? I have never heard that.

Canisius Griffins are in the MAAC with Fairfield. Must have been the impetus for this mascot article.

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - TDenverFan - 12-08-2019 02:03 PM

I'm a little worried this may be a bit of a trap game for us, they've had a lot of time to prepare

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - billymac - 12-08-2019 02:14 PM

Don't want to get too fast and loose with the ball today.

Fairfield Game Sunday - ColonelEbirt - 12-08-2019 02:15 PM

First 5 minutes. 0-3 from 3 from Nate and Andy. Only 1 was a good shot. Let’s pound it inside.

We are 0 for our last 4 and they have 3 straight TO's.

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - billymac - 12-08-2019 02:25 PM

Coach Fischer can't be real happy. He said, in Pre-Game, that he didn't want them to take the first available shot, but to work for a good shot. So far, we have taken just about every first shot...not close to a good shot. 5 of 13 from the floor.

Fairfield Game Sunday - zablenoise - 12-08-2019 02:27 PM

We have got to clean up the offensive boards. Do it and we can pull away.

We've missed 6 straight. 4 of those 6 went in and came out. Hopefully, the averages will start evening out.

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - LeadBolt - 12-08-2019 02:40 PM

Why does it feel that our guards are going to the rim more than the bigs, and the bigs throwing up more 3's than the guards?

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - tribelifer - 12-08-2019 02:41 PM

Being outrebounded by 16 to 10, with 4 offensive boards. We are the 3rd worst in the country in allowing offensive rebounds.

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday - LeadBolt - 12-08-2019 02:50 PM

Well, this one is closer than it should be at half with the good guys up 27-25. Let's hope we come out fired up and smart in the second half.
