Out beating the drum again. Said he has tried to get the other G5 conferences to change the metric for the Access bowl participant from champ to highest rated. No surprise they aren’t interested.

ETA: Said the conference has to get out of the G5. The branding really hurts the conference. He will keep pushing/fighting and thinks an Access bowl will happen eventually even if it’s a rotating bowl between three host bowls for a NY day guarantee.

Aresco is walking a fine line here. He cannot burn any bridge to the P5/P6 at this point. This is a very political and financial battle. I'm sure it's currently somewhat embarrassing that AAC football is and has been better than one or two P5 conferences for the past few years. The next item would be to get viewership numbers from the networks and make a comparison and see if the AAC is in the same ballpark as any of the current P5 conferences. Light logic along with a lot of schmoozing will need to be applied. And maybe some Louisville cheerleaders.

I think Aresco can get us a spot as an alternate in the Orange Bowl.
Orange Bowl currently staring down the barrel of a 9-4 Virginia coming to town. (assuming they lose to Clemson in the ACC championship)
Wouldn't you prefer Memphis or Cincy as an alternate option?

Aresco needs to keep pouring gasoline on the fire. The American has had four teams ranked much of the season but if Memphis and Cincy split the head to head games, that doesn't mean Boise should ascend to the Cotton Bowl simply because they have one loss (to an unranked team no less). UCF was denied access to the CFP based upon "strength of schedule" arguments. If they want to be logically consistent the same standard should be applied to choose the best G5 conference winner, with wins and losses only a weak secondary consideration for the access bowl.

I agree that the UMass flagship is a much better rival than a directional Eastern Carolina. With that said, we should all play more often. After all... UMass, UCONN, and ECU all have the same number of Bowl wins since ECU joined the AAC. Peer football programs unite!

At least he is out there. Heard from any of the other G4 commissioners? Can
you even name them? Everybody in college sports knows who he is.

I actually think what he is doing now is more about setting up the AAC as being deserving of a guaranteed NYD slot in the next CFP deal than it is about improving our respect within the current committee room.
