Gulf Coast Showcase - SomebodyToLove - 11-25-2019 11:06 AM
Game 1 vs South Alabama. Should be a good matchup. Vegas has us as 2.5 point favorites. S. Alabama suffered a narrow 1 point loss to #19 Auburn recently. We know they can play.
Max is not in the starting lineup. Is he available? Coach's decision?

Max is playing, Murphy is not.
After a bad start NU has a 1-point lead at the half.
Hope Roland can get some shooting chances. He has to learn how to Ben effective with double-teams.

Tyson (this week ROW) leads the team in scoring. He has been as steady as a rock.

Secondary scoring is extremely important when teams close down on Roland. Nice to see Walker and Franklin get some points. Hoping for Brace and Boursiqout to get in on the action in the 2nd half.

USA up 54-52 with 5:13 left. This has been a classic mid major game. Great moments of talent and lots of turnovers and scoring droughts.

Brace foul trouble and Roland forcing some ill-advised shots in the 2nd half was a big reason why NU lost this one.
On the flip side, very happy with Eboigboden's performance (just missed a double-double) and Walker leading all scorers today.
Hope Walker's injury doesn't prevent him from playing tomorrow. Need Roland to put this one aside and comeback.
Definitely let a very winnable game slip away.

Anyone know what is wrong with Murphy? This team simply cannot win continuing to get nothing from Bo and Max. I'd like to think the turnovers will get better with time and experience but scoring may be a season-long issue

Bo yes, because he can score and get hot. Max has never been a scorer. We need his toughness in the paint and occasional 3-point shots. His turnovers hurt us today.
Murphy has a twisted ankle and is day to-day, but I thought he would play today for sure.

This is the best college bb tourney! The Lahaina Civic Center is small but there is no assigned seating. We played Indiana in the opening game and we got there early so we could sit in the row behind Bobby Knight's bench. We could hear every word Knight said. We lost but went on to have a good tournament. You can be on the beach and ten minutes later be in the arena.

1990 my junior year at NU!
That game was on ESPN. We played them pretty well.
The next day they won a wild game vs Loyola Marymount 152-123 before losing to Toledo to close out the tourney. The 152 points is still a record for NU.
We also made the NCAA tournament.

Another brutal start. If Brace continues to play like this, the team is limited at best. We really rely on him. I guess Murphy is out for the whole tourney. Together, those factors will make it tough to get even 1 win here

Brace's play has been the most surprising to me. I thought he was going to be the key to our success this season. And maybe he is, but his play lately has not been encouraging.

Kudos to Shaq, Greg, and Myles. They have kept us in the game so far. Up 1 or 3 at the half (pending a review) but this has been an ugly game both ways
