Georgia and Auburn are too high. Georgia has a terrible loss on their resume. Too much is based off that sec patch on their uniform.

2 Big Ten teams is also ridiculous. We all know they stink it up against every other P5 conference when push come to shove. Penn will drop a game they shouldn't or two. OSU will lose by 50 to any southern team. We've seen this play out every year.

RE: 1st CFP Rankings - Ohio St. #1 - HiddenDragon - 11-06-2019 05:27 AM

So Ohio St. because they always lose to southern teams (they slaughtered Bama in the 2014 semis) shouldn't be #1 and Georgia and Auburn are ranked too high.

This is why you loathe and love college football......lol.

They got OSU right, I can't imagine PSU fourth. I like Alabama but they do seem to get a pass in these ratings.

I think OSU is overhyped..

Penn State has two games before the OSU game.. They got Minnesota this weekend and Indiana next... They're not flashy and I feel Franklin gets conservative when he gets the lead

Why do you think Ohio St. is overhyped? Are you going by previous history?

I'm no P5 or Clemson fan but can someone explain to me how they've been demoted to 5th without a single loss on the record?

RE: 1st CFP Rankings - Ohio St. #1 - SVHerd - 11-06-2019 09:41 AM

Agree. Penn State is overrated.

Well, playing freaking Wofford in the middle of the season probably didnt help them.

And barely beating a 3-3 UNC team that lost to App State didn't help either.

Sure but Bama plays WCU, NM State, Mercer, and Fresno. Not in the same year but Clemson is not unique to having weak teams on the schedule.

Georgia does have a bad loss vs South Carolina but they do have good wins vs. Notre Dame (#15) and Florida (#10). Auburn doesn't have any bad losses...but they do have a good win vs Oregon (#7).

I have no issue w/ the top 4...except that Penn State and Alabama should be reversed. Alabama has ZERO T25 wins, while Penn State has TWO (#14 Michigan & #18 Iowa).

Auburn has 2 losses. They should not be ranked over undefeated P5 teams. I don't care what conference they are in. That Notre Dame win isn't looking so great now. I just hope that 2 sec teams don't get in some how.

Yes Alabama does. Alabama has also only played 1 FBS team that has a winning record.

Those two undefeated P5 teams (Baylor and Minnesota) have a combined ZERO wins vs ranked teams. Minnesota barely squeaked out wins vs Fresno State (in OT) and against Georgia Southern. Baylor barely beat Rice coupled w/ the fact that the B12 is down this year. This is why those teams aren't ranked very high right now.

The good news for Baylor and Minnesota is there is still a lot of ball left. They'll have their chance to jump a lot of teams in the next few weeks if they continue winning. Baylor will get #9 Oklahoma and Texas (who's flirting w/ the T25 right now) so that's def 1, possibly 2 T25 wins right there that would definitely move them up closer. Minnesota has #4 Penn State this weekend, then #18 Iowa, and #13 Wisconsin in the coming weeks. That's gonna be brutal for them. Win those and they'll be in the T4.

Here's the bottom line: if you go undefeated in a P5 conference this year then you're going to be in the CFB playoffs. Simple as that. I wouldn't sweat the first CFB playoff rankings too much right now. Still a good bit of foosball left to play my dudes.

Admittedly true, but if the defending National Champions go undefeated and still get left out that would be great for playoff expansion prospects. Sadly that is unlikely to develop since current #1 has to play current #4 and current #2 has to play current #3.

I'm looking at this season.. They've blowed out opponents that they should blow out.. When they played Wisconsin they were evenly matched the first half.. Wisconsin's defense just couldn't get off the field.. Ohio State does a good job at ball and time management.. I just don't feel they're the number one team in the nation.. I also don't feel that Bama is either, they have gaps in their team too that a good team can expose.
