Post your podcasts - Fountains of Wayne Graham - 10-24-2019 11:02 PM

Right now I'm really enjoying Dolly Parton's America

Quote:In this intensely divided moment, one of the few things everyone still seems to agree on is Dolly Parton—but why? That simple question leads to a deeply personal, historical, and musical rethinking of one of America’s great icons. Join us for a 9-part journey into the Dollyverse.

Hosted by Jad Abumrad, creator of Radiolab and More Perfect.

Waiting for More Perfect to back off the song kick and return to the more hyper-focused Supreme Court episodes.

Just downloaded an episode of the Ringer’s Binge Mode that is supposed to dissect the life and theories around Jar Jar Binks. Looking forward to that one.

Don’t hate on the theory that Jar Jar was originally planned to be a Sith Lord, and the prime antagonist for the prequel trilogy until fan backlash was so fierce that Lucas felt the need to change paths.

Real good stuff.

You asking that question of me is so absolutely rich.

Let's not derail this wholesome thread with our lovers' quarrels.

Another pod I like is Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway.

Quote:Every Friday, Recode’s Kara Swisher and NYU Professor Scott Galloway offer sharp, unfiltered insights into the biggest stories in tech, business, and politics. They make bold predictions, pick winners and losers, and bicker and banter like no other. After all, with great power comes great scrutiny.

I had major doubts about WeWork's business model from day 1, so listening to these two give the play-by-play on its epic fall was fun.

I love reading Galloway's newsletter but didn't know about this podcast. I'll have to give it a listen.

Dolly Parton's America continues to shine. We could all learn a little from the ep on politics (Dollitics).

Another good one is Omnibus!.
"Twice a week, Ken Jennings and John Roderick add a new entry to the OMNIBUS!, an encyclopedic reference work of strange-but-true stories that they are compiling as a time capsule for future generations."

The hosts have good chemistry that sometimes reminds me of the CarTalk guys. I listen to these whenever the topic strikes me as particularly interesting and the topics are truly all over the map. Recent eps include: Government Cheese, No-Fault Divorce, Juggalos, and MSG.

I listened to the Swisher/Galloway podcast while driving back from a site visit in Corpus a few weeks ago - specifically that WeWork episode.

Really good podcast that was very informative. It's been added to my rotation of podcasts.

Driving? Good thing gas is cheap....for now.

OOwl, what is the point of this?

Please keep the snark out of this thread. You said you don't listen to podcasts, that's ok! If you want recs we can give you some, but this isn't the place to start petty little fights.

I guess this makes youLad’s friend.

We never finished our discussion on gas prices. Maybe if I had heard the info on a podcast...

RE: Post your podcasts - Fountains of Wayne Graham - 11-19-2019 04:07 PM

I am defending the integrity of my thread, not Lad. Take your gas price discussion to Lad's DMs if you must.

You going to call out Owl#s if he talks about driving? He also mentioned that he is OK with increasing a gas tax to cover needed deficit reduction or infrastructure projects since gas prices are so cheap.

But yeah, this thread was doing a good job staying on track - would be nice if stupid and petty arguments stayed out and we actually shared interesting things for once.

No, I would NOT call out numbers, since I agreed with him - and you - that adding a few cents to the gas tax might not be a bad thing.

I call out YOU since you were advocating higher gas prices as a method of coercing consumers away from gasoline. Higher prices as a result of antiOil legislation and regulation will hurt lower and middle class NOW, and you suggested riding the bus.
