Think Nova and SHU should switch spots

Wow, I assumed UCLA would jump into the top ten now that little Mick is at the helm. How could I have been so wrong?

RE: AP college basketball preseason poll - MWC Tex - 10-21-2019 05:20 PM

Surprised that Utah St is ranked.

They are loaded this year, 4 starters return, return MWC player of year, return defensive player of the year, top 3 bench players return and a very strong recruiting class.

I figured it would be Nevada with their recent success and transfers and landing Steve Alford as HC.

Nevada lost their whole team, they do have enough new talent to be picked 4th, not bad for a whole new program.

This is a homer complaint, but.... Why isn't Cincinnati ranked?

Cincinnati went 28-7 last year and won our conference. UC returns its 3 leading scorers, including the Conference Player of the Year. And added a grad transfer who scored 17 points/game last year and was recruited hard by several other top schools.

Sure, the team lost a lot of players, but only 2 of them are playing anywhere worth mentioning (a transfer to St. Mary's who averaged 2 points a game last year, and a transfer to Miami who averaged 7 points a game)

I'm not saying I'd vote for them to be top-10. But outside the top-10 it's all about the upperclassmen you have returning.

Thank god and Tom Izzo that bball season is upon us. Happy to see Sparty is ranked.

My wife and I both graduated from different "mid-major" schools with a single spotlight sport - App State (football) for me and VCU (men's basketball) for her, and support each other's teams. This week, for the first time ever, both our schools are in the AP Poll in their signature sport in the same week.

Not that anyone here cares (my wife didn't even care all hat much when I told her either) but I think it is pretty cool and exciting.

Gonna go out on a limb and guess that more than one AAC team will be ranked by the end of the year. Perpetually underrated.

Houston and Cincy are the only others receiving votes

AAC has put 1 team in the Sweet 16 in 5 years. The league isn't even underrated, let alone perpetually.

Well in fairness i guess they did put this out before Quentin Grimes received his waiver to play for Houston. So that may have been enough for them to rank UH. Going off their roster, I'd rank Cincy but they are replacing their HC. I'm also a little surprised at the lack of love for Gregg Marshall's team. He can coach with the best of them and he had a very young team playing pretty well by the end of the year last year. Is what it is. Rankings usually work themselves out.

Are you new to the college sports and realignment section of the CSNBBS? It is 50% complaining about how the AAC is perpetually underrated over here.

That is kind of cool. Congrats. And your two teams are very deserving. Good luck as the football season progresses and the hoops slate looms.
