Coastal @ Georgia Southern thread - EigenEagle - 10-15-2019 09:41 AM

First game against the Chants in Paulson Stadium since 2006.

Hard to believe we've played in Conway 4 times and they're only making their second trip to Statesboro.

Interested to see the crowd in Statesboro. CCU always draws a very good crowd to KBS.

We'll see. There's gonna be some lost steam on our side and a 3pm kickoff automatically has a lower average attendance than 6pm kickoffs. I don't know why we kickoff earlier than 6pm if we aren't on a linear broadcast, but whatever.

2006 was still near the beginning of their program and I don't remember them bringing many at all. And that was with some future NFLers on the roster too.

What's the story behind the one game in September 2010? I assume 2006/2007 was a home-and-home, but isn't it weird for a SoCon team to play a one-time game at a Big South team without a return game?

RE: Coastal @ Georgia Southern thread - FTE_rawr - 10-15-2019 09:55 AM

I believe Southern finds their footing and pulls this out, but god I wanna see Coastal in a bowl game.

You've already forgotten Sam Baker I see.

Yes 2006-2007 was a 1:1. Coastal was supposed to come to Paulson in 2011 but bought out of the agreement.

Those pesky Chants. Assuming they got a big payday game instead.

That's what I remembered too. Glad I'm not completely crazy.

Was that where we bought out of the game to travel to NDSU and replaced them with Coastal and then had to replace Coastal with someone else?

Yes, we bought out of the NDSU home-and-home and picked up Presbyterian, then Coastal bought out on us and we replaced them with Tusculum.

The funny thing about 2011 was we were the #3 seed but were basically two plays away from missing the playoffs....a missed field goal by the Citadel and a missed two-point conversion by UTC, both at the end of the game. If we lose those games we're 7-4 with 6 DI wins.

I honestly don't mind teams buying out of these, though, as long as they don't try to weasel out of paying up like Miami did with Ark State.

We’ve had two of the worst ADs possible after a great one in Bucky Wagner. It’s amazing the level of incompetence we continue to employ.

RE: Coastal @ Georgia Southern thread - ChiefGSU275 - 10-16-2019 07:04 AM

I really don't know what to expect this weekend from this game. I've only seen bits of CCU playing, so most of my analysis is based off of what GS has done.

Defensively, we've been pretty solid outside of the LSU game. Louisiana gave us trouble, but I think our guys will be up to the task of stopping CCU's run game. If CCU can hit some PA passes, we could find ourselves in trouble. If we can force them into passing situations, I like our chances a little better of stopping the pass.

Offensively - who knows. We have yet to put everything together on offense without killing ourselves with penalties, fumbles or bad snaps for a whole game. This will be the second game in a row having Shai and WK3 in the game together, so maybe we'll have a bit more offensive chemistry there, but with our OL being in a different arrangement just about every game, I dont know if we'll be able to provide rush lanes for those guys to make an impact.

We've had 16 days off to try to get things sorted and get things turned in the right direction, and this game will tell us how the rest of our season will go. Lay an egg here, and we likely will miss a bowl and finish 3rd or 4th in the east, maybe even 5th. Win this one, then we have a winnable game against NMSU next week, and we're heading into Boone at 2-1 in the conference on Halloween.

Looks like we will have a tropical storm dump 2" of rain on Gameday.

RE: Coastal @ Georgia Southern thread - eaglewraith - 10-17-2019 09:39 AM

Game might look like its from the 20s with no passing and each team just leaning on each other.

Yeah... gonna be a wet one.

Does this game qualify for pillow fight of the week?

Would seem to suggest the incompetence is coming from higher than that AD position.

Going to cover pretty much all of the southeast. SAD!

RE: Coastal @ Georgia Southern thread - FTE_rawr - 10-18-2019 09:32 AM

I think Southern's rush attack gives them the advantage in this (rain) game. But I want Coastal to be bowl eligible damnit
