IF UConn leaves what about the Fenway Bowl? - Foreverandever - 06-23-2019 09:27 AM

Just thinking that tie-in is going to be pretty useless.

Temple is close, but the Military bowl works well for them. Maybe Navy would want to be in Boston? Cincinnati has some alumni and so does Tulane. Really though that bowl goes from being a pretty good one for regional footprint to an outlier 9/11 teams wouldn't want.

I mean besides for the nostalgia of a meaningless postseason football game being played in a historical baseball facility in Boston in the dead of winter............

Realistically how often was UCONN going to be bowl eligible anyway.

I meant that from the AAC's perspective.

UConn was one of the main regional teams, Temple and Navy probably work well and Tulane as well as Cincinnati have alumni bases there. That bowl just suddenly looks a lot less attractive from the AAC's view point.

Yeah, we'll go.
And honestly, I would consider going myself, depending on time, pre-made family Christmas plans etc.

Acela up is easy, check the Fenway block without having to watch the RedSox, I hate heading northward in winter but Boston could be fun...

That bowl is now dedicated to FCS

You're welcome

ACC, so it remains an overall benefit for the conference.
I know this board likes to piss and moan about our bowl tie-ins. So, yeah, our bowls aren't as good as any of the autonomous conferences. But if we end up with 4 tie-ins vs the autonomous conferences, when the G4s have one total (mwc champ in LA vs PAC12 #last replacing Las Vegas vs PAC12 #last), then the strategic plan is still progressing.

ESPN controls almost all the bowls so whatever they want. UCONN just gave ESPN the middle finger so doubt they will get an invite till everyone else has a spot.

If UCONN was the main incentive for signing that bowl, then the AAC has even bigger problems than I thought. 03-lmfao

Agree. I like the idea of the Fenway Bowl. Everybody complained about losing the Pinstripe Bowl.

It's not our top tier bowl. AAC is trying to provide regional easy access bowls. The Fenway was for Temple and UConn to help with a short drive for teams that were bowl worthy but not great against teams that should bring some interest to those two (or Cincinnati and Tulane). This is a stepping stone bowl to get a P5 opponent and continue to build program momentum by giving fans a good trip and good opponent to build momentum on. It's cold weather and squeezed into a baseball stadium, now it 900 miles from most schools. It's the Hawaii bowl with a possible better opponent and far worse weather.

It was a viable solid move, now in three or four years we'll listen to Memphis fans ***** when they get sent there as a 7-5 team to play 6-6 Georgia Tech. Why couldn't we play them in a southern bowl, this doesn't even make sense, it's going to be below freezing at kick off time, etc will become quite the theme around here.

This will now be included as one of the stronger points in the UMass to the AAC petition.

"If we win 6 games you can send us here to probably lose to Boston College or something. Think of the ratings!"
