I can't pretend to have done a detailed financial analysis of the various options.
But it seems to me that the CAA schools might do much better financially by making their games freely available to alumni and fans (read: donors and potential donors) via their websites, Roku, etc., and generating enthusiasm and goodwill that would lead to $$$, rather than by trying to squeeze a relative pittance out of those same fans via a corporate entity that makes your product less accessible to them.

Yeah, much as people like TV deals, I honestly think what we currently do - free streams - is the best option. Seems like that's off the table though, for whatever reason.

It might be the best deal for fans who want to watch for free, but each school doing its own stream (not all we’re free and the quality on some was poor) is not the best for the schools or the conference. Free streams don’t generate any revenue and a basketball fan flipping channels to watch a game in a random winter night will never see the school by school streams. The Flo Sports deal generates revenue which is then used to put additional games on national TV. People are scoffing at CBSSN, but 50 million households via linear TV is better than zero, which is what the conference previously had. Flo Sports is the same as ESPN+, you can download the app and then watch on your TV via your streaming device (Apple TV, Roku, etc.). It just costs more than ESPN+. But most of the conferences on ESPN+ also aren’t receiving any rights fees.

So if we're doing Flo Sports, I agree that using the funds to get on CBSSN is better than giving each school 50k. My only question is how many random people are watching these games. Getting W&M on TV is always good for the school, but I'm not sure how many non CAA fans are gonna flip through the channels and settle on a CAA game, especially since there will almost certainly be a more marquee matchup on ESPN or something.

As long as they don't have streaming issues, as they did with the first DC United broadcast in the spring, I don't think it's really going to be that bad for $12+/month. Granted it's not free, but I don't mind paying the equivalent of a monthly theater ticket, if they truly put it to effective use in branding basketball. We actually have all of our football games (10) listed on their schedule with the exception of UVA and ECU.
They only charge to see games live. You can watch replays on the channel without having a subscription. All of the Tribe football interviews on twitter are available on it now, as well as, CAA Media Day and other content, without having to subscribe.

If Flosports was priced on par with paid streaming sports competition, I'd have no issue paying up. Instead, it's double the price with a fraction of the meaningful content. I know college sports features amateur athletes. It doesn't mean that the broadcasting package needs to be ameteurish.
Does cox's coverage service our alumni base and put eyes on tribe sprts? I'd argue no. Maybe it will bring us some Missouri, Arizona, or Louisiana recruits.

I'd rather pay PBS to show our games in the mid-Atlantic area. Supplement that with tribeathletics.com streaming. Pay 10 bucks per away game to the host website and call it a day.
Full Tribe football schedule (save UVA) and Flosports promises to post the available MBB schedule soon.

I could have sworn the initial FloSports press release said that only a % of each team's games would be put on Flo.
If it's now the case that Flo will carry ALL CAA sports, except for the "bigger" ones against the likes of UVA and ECU, I'm fine to pay for that all-encompassing coverage.
Of course, I'm using "fine" as a relative term here, as last year's free CAA.tv is most preferable -- but if we have to pay for Flo, I darn sure better get every single CAA game under the sun.

What is outrageous is Richmond charging $40/seat to games at their #!!$&hole, sterile stadium. That pays for three months of FloSports.

Per the schedule above, only 7 Tribe games will be Flo streaming exclusive: Colgate, Villanova, JMU, Maine, Elon, Rhode Island, Towson. The remaining home and road conference games: Lafayette, Albany, and Richmond should be on CAA.TV too in additon to Flo
