the teasips would never let that happen. besides, lucky for you other guys in the belt, the school is not motivated to be a sports powerhouse.

ya they are hovering at about 30,000..for a while they seemed to be booming..actually around 80 miles as I remember.

As someone who commuted daily from Austin to San Antonio for about 15 months at one point in my life, yeah its more like 80. Prob more than that if you're going from UT to UTSA way out there on 1604.

Yep. Old data. In the 60s we had Rebel Village, Trinity Hall, Pachl Hall, Lipscomb Hall and Davis Hall (Later Brazos House) - Five dorms from the TAMU era and before, comprising probably fewer than 1000 beds. After the school was moved from the A&M system to the UT system in about 1965, there was no new dorm construction until the 1990s. So for over 30 years UTA was by design a commuter college. That was then. Now there are eight residence hall communities and nine apartment complex communities, plus numerous dining facilities. I wish it had been this nice when we were there.

one reason for that period of no construction was the Peveto bill back in the seventies that revamped property taxes and how they funded schools in Texas. I remember people at the time saying that something in that bill caused a lot of construction at Texas colleges to come to a stop. of course the teasips and aggies had access to the PUF so they kept on rolling.

True. The death of ad-valorem financing killed Snake LeGrand's new basketball arena, and so UTA played on the stage at Texas Hall until 2012. I'm still confused about why Arlington has never mounted a Capital campaign, either in general, or as a focused plan to generate football startup funds. Our President continues to talk down anything that could potentially raise the cost to students, so at least for now, raising our $8.50/hour student athletics fee to UNT or Texas State levels is a non-starter.

This is leaving so much money on the table for the athletics department. Just adding $2/hour would add at least a million to the department budget each semester.

A professor friend of mine was remarking about how huge the classes are getting, and that it seems the university is just grubbing for more money. I suggested to him that UT Arlington is somewhat less expensive than most of the public schools in Texas, partly because we only charge $8.50 per hour student athletics fee, versus the upcoming $30 per hour at TxSt. He said "wow - an extra $90 for a three hour course."
Being a football fan, I'd be perfectly happy to see our fee go up to the UNT level of $20 per hour. But then, my and my kids' student loans are all paid off.
